@RagDraggo Bars, by and large, are mostly for people looking for trouble. If all you want to do is get drunk then it's much cheaper to buy some booze (or make it!) and drink at home. People with GOALS in life--their own pursuits, skills/talents, dreams and ambitions do NOT spend their lives hanging out in bars all the time trying to look cool. That goes triple if you're over about 25 or so.

Maybe at one time in specific places, but that's not possible today because of the widespread prevalence of the belligerence-as-virtue movement, a.k.a. ASPD.
18
@fleatactical7390 Of course, but after a while just 'play fighting' gets dull for hot-tempered sorts with a chip (or a 3-ton boulder) on their shoulder.

Not a taxi driver, but even as a Canadian I wouldn't want to do that unless I was carrying a pistol even if I worked day shifts! People are porked! Seriously, being a cab driver has to be one of the more dangerous jobs, especially when your fare is high on heavy drugs like meth and somehow magically forgot to bring any money.
4
@SmallSpoonBrigade If you have to worry about things like that, it means you're hanging around people that are antisocial and looking for trouble. You're wasting your time.
4
That's what the Internet is for :) hehehe Ultimately though, being agreeable and having a live-and-let-live view of life does NOT cut it with many, many people. They pick and choose their targets first and foremost based on physical size because there's little else to do it with. That's why guns were invented.

Not among humans.
2
@fleatactical7390 My guess is that after a lot of training, some people want to try out a real fight for a change--one that's actual combat and not just practicing.
2
If you're a big ol' side of beef, I can't imagine it would happen very often. What do you mean by passive-aggressive statements? Were they actually trying to start a fight with you? (Some will, I know)
2
I doubt it, especially if he's much bigger. A big ass shiny revolver might help you though.
2
Friendliness/humor is a sign that you're on the defensive to a person who's belligerent. To them, it's an opportunity to step up and escalate. So, you're just doing exactly what they want you to do.
2
In all fairness, he would have simply known he was probably going to win because the other guy was trying to fight Mike Tyson :)

@tjrich9349 Apparently the Nazis regularly sailed U-Boats up and down the St. Lawrence river, so they would have reached Canada. My best guess is that they either did it just to see if they could, or were trying to spy on the USA. Nazis... Dear ol' grandad from my father's side was one of 'em :) He croaked before I was born though, I never got to ask him if Herr Adolf was the friendly, agreeable type

Studies have also shown the exact opposite, and that guessing the correct result is random (correct 50% of the time)

Some people think minding your own business is disrespectful because you aren't paying attention to them instead. When you say you're doing something and ask them to leave you be, they say "Make Me." I consider that grounds for justifiable homicide, but the judge may disagree.
1
Careful about that, there really are people that don't care if they're shot and see your gun as a challenge. Plenty of people are very, very sick indeed and will even approach you with belligerent intentions if you're open carrying. And yes, there really are people like that. Not all of them are high on meth, either--it's just some people's worldview.
1
What makes you think it's ever been any different? Humans have been human for the 200,000 years we've been on the planet. Many people have always been belligerent, not because of childhood trauma/humiliation/PTSD but simply because it's their nature.

Tell him to save his belligerence for the terrorists

The Mr. Inbetween Effect :)

It means he's Mr. T sucka! GRRRRRRRRRRR

You're already born on planet earth, surrounded by stupid people all the time that only want to make life hell. People as a species are losers. There's no getting away from that. So, that kind of advice doesn't hold water.
1
@nofilter.906 I'm definitely not a big guy at all, had to take shit from losers all my life except for a short time I was carrying a pistol. That's why I've been granted so many pardons, including as a result of having to deal with arrogant belligerent cops. Cops are by far the worst--big, arrogant, antisocial losers with no personal boundaries or basic human decency.
1
Well, anger is painful. That's why it sucks. Some claim it's empowering, which it sort of is intended to be: To protect you from injustice.
1
Until he peels all the skin off your face with his razor claws
1
Except you're showing your back to the belligerent, which can get you jumped or shot in the back.

I figured out in my early 20s that popular "cool" people who are always at the bar/club and always have their "entourage" are basically losers looking for trouble. Find something to be interested in at that age instead. That goes double for the sort that are already on welfare at that age and talk incessantly about "pussy" :)
1
Humor can trigger a belligerent and make them fly into a blind rage, though.
1
"Do you owe me money?" would be a better one
1
Krazy krauts :)
1
Really don't know what to think about that, I'm a very small guy and have gotten shit for it incessantly all my life, including from my very own brother (who I put in the hospital a few times for it when he didn't see it coming) and figured if you're tough as the devil then people would leave you alone. I guess there's just no accounting for the fact that many people are just fucking losers and that's that. Always looking to cause bullshit. We're a right bloody nasty fucking species.
1
Being drunk makes a LOT of people do stupid crap that the dumbest and most belligerent psychopath wouldn't do no matter what!

"He died from being shot in a bar by some guy who probably couldn't fight." Hate to ruin your delusions of your father's buddy's grandeur, but he was defeated by a drastically superior fighter using a drastically superior fighting method: The firearm. Why was he almost 40 and getting into bar fights all the time? That bullshit is for young arrogant fools with more testosterone than brains. Your father's friend may have been decent at unarmed fighting SPORTS but sucked at real fighting where defeating your opponent using any means possible is the only objective. Actual combat isn't supposed to be fair, you're supposed overwhelm your opponent with extreme violence and that's why your dad's idiot friend died. People talk about combat-based sports like MMA or boxing and actual combat as if they're basically the same thing. They are NOTHING of the sort!
