  2. Monogamy IS, by definition, one person at a time. It could be only one person for life, or you could be with a number of people, but if you don't sleep with someone else when you're with a given person, then by definition you're monogamous. Some people get married, or form an exclusive partnership with another, and the other person dies. After that, they find someone else. If they don't shag anyone other than their current partners, then they're monogamous.

  3.  @penpuinn  Placing a burden on another human being is the whole reason why people have kids. With parenthood comes an agenda. That agenda includes forcing the kids to live their lives in a way that is gratifying to the parents' egos. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a bullshitter.

  5.  @nullenbuffeh3201  It's not age-shaming, that's something entirely different. It has little to do with the wall, and more to do with chronological age itself, although the two are related. Sometimes, on very rare occasions, some people are extremely attractive in their 30s, and even their 40s--it's almost unheard of because its so rare, probably only one in many thousands uopn thousands of people, but it can, and does, happen. They don't have age-shaming. There are women in their 30s that are still 10s--but maybe only one in 100,000.

  9. The magnetic field isn't what allows a planet to keep its atmosphere, it's gravity that does that. The magnetic field is what deflects solar radiation, though. Maybe Mars is far enough away that it isn't as much of a problem?

  11. If you're generally happy, and have what you need to count on a reasonably happy life in the future, then your life hasn't been that hard. Nobody's life is 'easy' except for people born into wealth. Your not the only person that works for a living.

  21. People join the armed forces without thinking about the fact that they're basically cannon fodder. Regardless of rank, pay, or even power, you are now a government-owned consumable resource. Just like in civilian life. So, when you come home, how come it's the same old expensive, tedious, desperate, alienating bullshit? Because that's what you were risking your life to protect!

  24. Not trying to be a buzzkill, but I have to wonder, with humans on Mars, will Earth (the USA in particular) dictate how life is lived there? What will they do for behavioral regulation, i.e. people getting wasted, harassing each other and starting fights, assault/rape etc. Remember, they'll still be human, and that means politics and belligerence. Presumably only very bright and dedicated people will be the first to colonize Mars, but once there are people being born there, and there are enough of them, they'll just go back to being human :)
