  1. The Model 3 is not intended to be compared to the Civic! While the Civic has a reputation for being an excellent car, the Model 3 is incredibly expensive for its size, power, etc. The BMW might be a better comparison. If you're willing and able to buy a Tesla, or a BMW, being nitpicky about cost of ownership is the wrong mindset. Enjoy it, they're just cars, they all do the same thing, and you just happen to have bought a really expensive one.

  5. That's the whole idea. You also can't get the smooth, quiet feel of an electric with a gas engine, and with the AC induction motor there's no need for a trasmission with multiple gears. I drive manual myself, but making it out to be the holy grail and the whole point of driving is rather foolish. It just isn't needed with electrics, and for combustion engines, the main point of manual is that it's cheaper. It might give you slightly better control of the car, but in street driving it doesn't make that much difference.
