  3. There have been Diesel rotaries, but the whole point of having a Diesel engine is reduced fuel consumption. Rotaries have lower thermal efficiency so they burn more fuel, and that means if you want a Diesel, it will undoubtedly be a reciprocating piston engine.

  5. Considering what a pain in the ass it is to get to and remove, and how much it's worth used, there's really no point in stealing catalytic converters. People steal them just to steal. That's it. Your car is immobilized and you have to waste a lot of time and effort to go and get it replaced--probably with an exhaust system that will not last as long as the one that came originally with the car. That's why people do it.

  9.  @prestonm.64  Ok, so they replaced them with something newer and ideally better. Fair enough. The Crown Vic was a stout old tank but it probably wasn't anywhere near as good as a modern car.

  10.  @prestonm.64  It's as good as any, Dodge can just build special police editions with more power and stiffer suspensions. As long as it's a "big" car with plenty of get-up-&-go and decent handling (and ideally, rear wheel drive) I don't see what difference it makes. If Ford wasn't selling many Crown Vics there's no reason to keep producing them anymore. It doesn't make good business sense for them to do it.

Someone else here mentioned that sometimes the gas station is really busy, and there are substantially fewer pump jockeys than gas pumps, so you have to sit around twiddling your thumbs and going bananas waiting for someone to come around and filler up. That would drive me coo-coo. Just pump it yourself, it's faster and more convenient. It's cheaper too, which is more relevant today than it's ever been!

I'm 46 years old, can't afford a car anymore. It's just too fucking expensive. I guess I could go and get a job, but at today's cost of living I'll just be destitute anyway so fuck working.

  17. The Honda Fit is an awesome little shitbox. We had a 2006 base model one with the manual transmission. They aren't powerhouses by any stretch, but aren't really too anemic either and the steering is nice--they track well at highway speeds, they are not "wanderers" at all. I'd imagine they're good fun to bash around in with a good set of tires on them. Oh yeah, they also don't guzzle gas like a V8 or any of those turbo rotaries.

  18. Pollutes like fuck too, the converter is there for a reason. It drastically reduces emissions. People hate them because they're being stupid, it's entirely possible to have a very loud exhaust system that has an effective converter and runs with low emissions. Just remove the muffler.

  20. If possible, just knock him out and lock him in the trunk. Remove the emergency escape cable release, and leave him there for a week before getting him out--or even a couple months, just put the rear seat down so you can give him water so he doesn't croak. When he gets out he'll be severely emaciated. Not really an option for pickup trucks, in that case you have to chain him up securely and chuck him in the back.

  21. They're not allowed to steal your property, either, so if you shoot them--they started it. You're not even allowed to defend your own life with a firearm in Canada, it's considered a criminal offense here and it's up to the judge to decide if it gets thrown out of court.

  22. That's a classic complaint. Pretty universal to driving. Limit's this, traffic's going that, keep up with the traffic and you're breaking the law, do the limit and you're impeding traffic flow. I've always maintained that they should just set an arbitrarily high speed limit, say, 90-100 MPH (or about 150 km/h here in Canada) and very rigidly enforce that. Going 10 over is a $10,000 fine and loss of license for 3 years, going 20 over is permanent loss of license and $50,000 fine, 30 over is 5 years in prison and loss of license and vehicle.) That way, the traffic can get a fucking move on like it's supposed to, but the speed LIMIT prevents people from ridiculously abusing the public highways. Canadian major highways (400 series) have a 100 km/h speed limit, which is about 60 MPH. It's ridiculous and everyone blatantly ignores it. 150 km/h would be much more realistic and reasonable as an actual speed LIMIT.

  26. There are V4 engines--never heard of one in a car, although I'm sure somebody's done it, there's no point. Twice as many head gaskets, twice as many camshafts (if overhead cam,) two separate exhaust manifolds, no need for it--just use an inline 4 in cars. Good engine layout for motorbikes though, more compact than an inline-4.

It wasn't just the Oil Crisis, it's the absolutely horrible pollution caused by huge engines burning leaded gas with no emissions controls and shitty carburetors.

  42. 15:30 you're showing the cam & crankshaft as being geared together 1:1 so they run at the same speed. The camshaft runs at half crank speed, the ratio is 2:1. 15:46 has the same error. You should change your animations!

  43. I've always wondered if actually attending street races to record them and put them online is illegal, even if you don't race in the streets yourself. It's probably a legal gray area since you're documenting criminal activity and not directly reporting it to the cops, but they can see everyone doing it by watching the vid. So, it's either promoting it or informing them about it depending on how they (and the judge) sees it.

  44. You can't run red lights, not even the police are allowed to do that. Nobody can. You have to stop first, check to see if it's safe to go through, and only then can you go through if the light is stuck on red (or if you're driving an emergency vehicle.) "Running" refers to not stopping at all--just barrelling on through as if it were green. Very, very illegal, and if done deliberately, will probably get you arrested for reckless endangerment. Running red traffic lights is EXTREMELY dangerous--don't do it!

  47. Going to the police over a car theft/vandalism is a waste of time. I had stuff stolen off my car repeatedly for many years by the same guy; telling the police accomplishes nothing. They have no reason to care. If you catch the guy under the car you can pummel him with a pipe wrench or something else really heavy. Try to break his legs so he can't run and you can have your way with him. Otherwise just knock him out if you can, lock him in the trunk, drive 100 miles at 3AM and execute him.

  50. Not necessarily, people just like to steal for spite. More often than not they just throw the converter away--it's not worth getting busted with it. Most thefts just result in the stolen item being thrown away.
