  2. I can't believe the field of psychology is so competitive. I've been to a LOT of psychologists, and a lot of them are useless, apathetic airheads... There's no way it's that competitive with the types of people that become them. A good psych is worth their weight in gold, but many of them are beyond useless and finding a good one can be an absolute nightmare and almost as bad as the underlying condition! (I was severely tortured many times growing up, and I never found a half-decently competent shrink.)

Job title, new car, 2.3 kids in line to be doctors and lawyers, and of course that universal prerequisite: Bragging about "how much hard work it was to get where I am today, but I worked hard for the privilege of bragging about how hard I worked". I'm sure you've heard it all before. None of it does anything for me. I have no problem with it, I just find it very dull, and too damn much work for something I don't indentify with. You know, like a zillion other people :)

Guys go to start fights and prove that they're "alpha", girls go to watch guys fight over them and get their money. If you dig the music, that's cool, but many (if not most) clubbers aren't there for that. They're looking for drama and conflict because they're bored, and don't have anything in their lives that they like to do.

They torture for the sake of it because they like the feeling of power and there's nothing more to it than that. They could know all along that the person they're torturing has nothing to do with terrorism, they just torture him anyway because they get a kick out of it.

  21. Music kicks ass. I haven't the foggiest idea why, but I've loved it since I was a very little kid. It seems to me that it's inescapably human, although I'm aware that not everyone digs it. The biggest mystery of music to me is why anyone ever bothered with it, especially in the very beginning when nobody had developed any instruments yet, let alone had any theory as to how to go about writing any tunes to play on them :) Great part of being human, though!

  37.  @maxineporter8848  Not really, a sovereign country is just one that doesn't officially submit to another country's government (a Dominion.) Canada was originally called the Dominion of Canada, submitting to the power of the British government. We consider ourselves a sovereign country so nowadays we just say "Canada." This would hold true if we had no military at all. As for being a protectorate goes, both the USA and Canada are members of NATO and since they have nuclear weapons and we do not, then yes we can be considered a protectorate. It's not a bad deal since those things are terribly expensive and are a godawful pain in the ass to maintain. We just let the States deal with all that nuclear weapons stuff so we can focus on making beer and hockey pucks :)

I'm sure Dr. Peterson knows how to avoid fucking a person's mind up even more than it already is, and if he's in the mood for it, he might even be able to do some good. Google says Jordie is worth around 10 million bucks. Let's say he's worth 2 or 3 million because Google always seems to exaggerate this sort of deal. It expands as much as possible to consume as much of the total resource pool (taxes) as possible, for the primary goal of having as much power over the people as it possibly can. In other words, the organization as a whole has a mind of its own, and it will grow uncontrolled to become as large and all-consuming as possible. It's just the nature of organizations that do not have to provide their own resources, and exist primarily to have power over people. All other organizations are inherently self-limiting, such as businesses for example. A business must make its own money by it own effort, and must function reasonably well in order to survive first, and ultimately prosper. That simply isn't the case with bureaucracy, which is parasitic by nature and function, just like a big & dominant street gang.

  154. Canadians don't elect the Prime Minister. They vote for their local representative, and whichever party has the most representatives in Parliament, their chosen candidate becomes Prime Minister. PM of Canada is an appointed position, not a publicly elected one.

  156. Taxes too high? Get the combustion engine car, its cheaper. Get the older house with leaky windows and doors, it's cheaper. Re-insulate? That's expensive. Firewood instead of a new high-efficiency gas furnace is cheaper...
