The notion that life is all about "networking" (the pursuit of popularity and large quantities of social connections) is largely a young female thing. There's nothing wrong with it, but not every person on the planet is a young, average-minded female. There are also young females that aren't interested in being popular, even though their whole world around them tells them repeatedly that it's what life is all about.
