  1. It probably isn't just a sign of the times that an ethical decision has to become so heavily politicized. Everything has to deteriorate into a power struggle. It's also understandable that people are worried about being pressured to die after their taxpaying days are over, that's certainly a VERY legitimate concern.

  2. It was a tiny little nuke, only around 14-15 kilotons. A modern one contains several warheads with a total explosive power around 1,000 times greater.
