In the case of laser eye surgery, it's the machine that does 100% of the work. The doctor's role is to examine your eyes and determine if you're a suitable candidate, because not everyone can have the procedure. Once you're all set to go and thoroughly anesthetized, the machine does all of the work by itself--it's fully automated.

My eyesight is absolutely horrendous not only because of nearsightedness, but also because I was attacked and my corneas were deliberately damaged. I haven't had laser surgery because I don't have the money (or the balls) to attempt it, but people who develop this technology are like gods to me :)

@Groovyboii13 Apparently it's getting very good, they're supposed to be improving it so that there's a lower chance of having the 'starburst' effect, which causes radial light shafts and halos to appear around light sources.

In a nutshell, incompetent people think they're awesome because... they're incompetent :) Competent people value being insightful--they strive for accuracy of judgment, and that makes them more aware of their own limitations.
