  4. It's because once they have reached a certain speed on the takeoff run, there isn't enough runway left in front of them to stop. So, they MUST take off. Having both engines fail on one side of the aircraft, especially when very slow and heavy, is a disastrous situation.

  5. Although I smoke myself, I'll be the first to admit that it's a lameass, pathetic and generally overall shitty thing to do to yourself. If your aspirations in life include, you know, FLYING AIRCRAFT, it's probably a good bet that you should quit. Because, frankly people who fly aircraft should give a shit about life! If you're having a major nic-fit in the cockpit, you could try bringing along some nicotine patches. They do the trick. I really should get some myself and lay off this stupid nonsense.

  6. Not pre-spinning the wheels actually has a benefit--at the touchdown point, spinning up the wheels on contact with the runway reduces the plane's airspeed slightly, reducing the chance of bouncing.

  7. Doesn't the bank angle make the circular runway only suitable for landing over a narrow speed range? What about airplanes that require greater or lower landing speeds? Looks like a cool idea, but I can't see it being really practical.
