  1. Reminds me of my second generation RX-7... Oh man, you had to rip the entire car apart just to replace the gazillion and one little light bulbs! Funny thing is in 1987 they coulda have used LEDs and they probably would have been cheaper to boot. Oh well.

  4. Canadian here. As long as they work, it's no problem. Flashing is a turn signal, solid is a brake light. It only knackers with other drivers when one of the lights doesn't work.

  5. These are excellent points, but arguably, both brake lights and turn signals are redundant because of how driving is intended to be done. Brake lights are there because people follow too closely, they aren't necessary. You're supposed to watch what's going on! Turn signals have a definite purpose, mostly so the driver behind you knows you want to turn, and that's why he's slowing down in front of you with no stop sign or red light ahead. They're a courtesy feature so people don't have a cow behind the wheel. As for lane changes, you aren't supposed to do that at all until there's plenty of room, so you don't catch anyone off guard or cut anyone off. But, they're there for safety and courtesy reasons. Neither are actually necessary if you think about it. That being said... Make sure the damn things work, and always, ALWAYS use them when you're supposed to, because it does, in fact, reduce BS and mishaps :)

  7.  @exoticcar5482  I'm not sure where you got that from, they had bright white LEDs back in 1987 and before that. You could order them online, you didn't see them at Home Depot, but they were available. Made in China, of course--like everything else that would follow.

  8.  @jamespfitz  I have stereo equipment that's older than me and has LED power and FM stereo indicators on it. I'm 44. It was a consumer product like any other. Incandescent light bulbs certainly were cheaper back then, though. Replacing them in cars certainly wasn't :)
