@Sajayyz Ok. So someone who gives a detailed, articulate description of their thoughts or beliefs must be a paid propagandist? For whatever reason, people are fascinated by how much money the LDS Church has. These same people seldom talk about how that money is used. The Church has donated billions of dollars in money, goods, food, time, etc. Charitable work goes on all over the world nonstop. Also, disaster relief is a major expense as well.

@jamietomas1550 Nope. Outsiders finding our practices strange does not make us a cult. This discussion proves the lack of secrecy. It does prove that people are rude, flippant, and disrespectful to things they don't understand but feel qualified to bash anyway.
5
The body dies, but the spirit lives on. You'll see your Grandpa again.
5
@jamietomas1550 Specify those claims, please.
4
@machine123e456 We're speaking of the difference between salvation and exaltation.
3
I won't squirm, I'll just say that's private. It's a weird thing to bring up. It's like 5 seconds of a ceremony. The Temple is a place for an individual to do their own ordinances and then ordinances for their family. It's all about returning to God and family.
3
@axoid The reason President Nelson wants us to use the official name, is because we are emphasizing Jesus Christ and as LDS, we are living in the last days.
3
After it's finished, but before it's dedicated, there will be an open house. You could take a tour if you like.
3
@NightmareRex6 You should research what this "wealthy church" does with it's tithing money. Our charitable and reliefs efforts are extensive. It's also expensive building and maintaining the churches and temples. Money is not acquired for the sake of wealth. It's acquired to do God's work.

Not even close
2
Yes, you've been gone a long time. You definitely need a refresher on each point.
2
@axoid This is no secret. I knew this the first time I attended the Temple for myself. How many people do you know with the same name? If this is your big gotcha, you're just being sad at this point.
2
@axoid The Church is lead by Jesus Christ. We are at the end of the last dispensation. Priorities are changing. We need to emphasize Jesus now, more than ever.
2
If we're performing ordinances that take us back to God and family, why would we summon a demon. Why would we summon a demon anyway?
2
@rhy8336 Temple work is an offering. The dead can either accept or reject.
2
@katelynwinder6670 You really need to do some more research. The Temple covenants are not with the Church. God will respect your agency to leave the Church. The faithful will be with their families. Again, a choice. We have to remember and respect that choices have consequences. I believe that after it's all said and done, everyone will understand and accept God's decisions of who goes where.
2
yuck
2
@jamietomas1550 Like a cult of anti-cultists.
2
@ru95 I have no problem claiming my membership in the LDS Church. Now, let's see ru95's reasons for his disparaging description.
2
@ru95 Knock it off. Actually, I hope you can convert soon. We have a beautiful, Christ-centered, family-oriented belief system that will bring great comfort and peace to those who live the Gospel principles.
2
@axoid You can read the disrespect in the comments. Why would we feed the bigotry? Why would a non-LDS perspective be more interesting? It would probably be wrong. Why are people so fascinated with garments? They are a reminder of a covenant between the individual and God. That covenant is personal and not intended for the public, like the garment.
2
@axoid The LDS perspective is the only one that counts since it's our beliefs. The disrespect in the comments indicates more bigotry than interest. I'm not sure most people want to be educated. They just want something else to bash us with.
2
Yes, let's go to the ex-mos for the most accurate, unbiased take on LDS beliefs.
1
@CantTellYou Maybe. It's not really relevant. Not only would Hitler have to accept the proxy, but God would as well.
1
@LongJourneys The ordinance means nothing unless you accept it. If you don't, no problem.
1
@LongJourneys Stop it. Nobody's raping you. If you don't want to accept the ordinance, then don't.
1
The Nicene Creed was man made.
1
@marcusaustralius2416 That's your opinion which you're entitled to. The real question is one of authority (Priesthood). We believe the Priesthood authority was lost and restored. We don't recognize the infallibility of the "Ecumenical Council". We believe in God, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. We believe them to be 3 separate personages, but one in purpose.
1
Not every word from a Prophet's mouth is a prophetic utterance. They are allowed to have their own opinions.
1
@gordon3186 We take what is said in Conference and the Church publications as official.
1
Cult, cult blah. That word gets thrown out a lot, but never backed up.
1
We've heard it all...cult, magic underwear, Freemasonry, yada yada.
1
Having same-sex attraction does not disqualify you for exhalation. Having a temptation is not the same as acting on the temptation.
1
Yuck
1
prove it
1
Nope
1
Next time there's an open house...go. Separation of church and state includes the money. What the gov taxes, it can control. That's a violation of the 1A.
1
And people wonder why we don't want to talk about sacred things.
1
Why? Because gov does such a great job handling money? The LDS church has spent billions in charitable aid and disaster relief all over the world. I'm guessing you're not a fan of the 1A?
1
yuck
1
You mean peaceful?
1
@jacobopstad5483 What? We don't truly understand the purpose of the name. What difference does it make? How many people do you know with the name Jacob? Does it make you any less of a Jacob?
1
@axoid It's on Google because some members have broken their covenants.
1
@axoid People make mountains out of mole hills. I received my endowment in the same session as my cousin. So, I knew this from day one. What's the big deal? We don't even know if the name is permanent or exactly how it will come into play later. Is this really all it takes to make you question your faith? It reminds reminds me of Matthew 23:24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
1
Clean, white, artwork...yep, that's weird.
1
We use the King James Version, which has only one God.
1
@Vibeagain ?
1
@Hideyoshi1991 We will be resurrected with perfected bodies.
1
The LDS Church has a YT channel, website, magazines, BYU tv. Check it out. You'd be surprised how much the "secretest church" shares with the world.
1
@Persun_McPersonson It's not so much about keeping knowledge secret as casting pearls before swine. No, I'm not calling non-members swine. It means we don't want sacred things thrown out to be twisted and ridiculed. Some things should be approached with reverence.
