@videopipeline6419 Your analogy is wrong, because unlike people, countries don't have a government above them. It's more like the desert island with a bunch of marooned pirates running around with sticks and trying to get each other. So, you don't get to speak of rights on that level, you really need to talk to your neighbors to reach an agreement. It's a lot like anarchic society. The international law is more like a declaration, throughout history, when the balance of power changes, so do the borders. The United States tried to play a role of global police but they quickly lost their image of cool and laid back "benevolent dictator" when the USSR was gone. In the context at hand, they did it by refusing to take Russia into NATO in 2000 and toppling regimes, and increasing their military power at Russia's border, playing a role of a "bully" in your analogy. As for Russia's attack, they gave Ukraine eight years to create a federation and stop killing their Russian minority. Instead they ditched the peace accords of 2014, and asked NATO for an atomic bomb
