  7.  @christosferizis-synodinos8851  You're basing this off what exactly? These two nations almost went to war in the 1990s for this same reason a long time before Erdogan was ever in the picture. This problem preceded both Greek and Turkish leaders and it will outlast both of them as well. It seems it will only be solved if one side gets a lot stronger than the other where it can force terms. Other than that, I see no negotiated settlement. Only a military conflict will solve this pickle.

  12.  PatchesRips  I don't think Poland really signed on to be part of a union that would become this authoritarian and centralized years down the road. Poles are more sensitive to this type of thing than western Europeans. They lived under the Soviet Union. They don't want to be living under the Soviet Union 2.0. Again I'm fairly sure that isn't what they signed on for.

  13.  @luishernandezblonde  I don't think he has an option to "not step down." If he loses the election he will have no choice. If he wasn't worried about losing elections he wouldn't be pushing such insane economic policies to keep the show moving, which makes no sense if the elections are "rigged." When the people of that nation are tired of this man he'll be gone. He won't be gone because people like me and you don't like him.

  15.  @davidty2006  Nations can easily run contradictory foreign policy. Happens all the time. It's a juggling act, it isn't easy but it is done quite often. Sometimes successfully.

  19. @Vaucluse the difference isn't who they're offending. The difference is who is giving the offense. The more powerful EU members want to be treated like mafia bosses. They can't stand the idea of a two bit nation like Poland rising up and questioning them. As these Eastern European states grow and become wealthier I'm not sure they're going to take this type of treatment from their Western European counterparts for very long.

  23. Could Turkey join the EU? I'd say it's about as likely as the odds of me flying to the moon. 1. Turkey no longer has any interest in joining a sinking ship. 2. Most EU nations never had any intention to actually allow Turkey in. Both sides are still playing pretend so they won't be viewed as the side which broke off the arrangement. It's a farce.

  24.  @nikosgeorgiou9020  Imagine making a deal for islands after a war under a deal where you're not able to militarize them. Then militarize islands a few miles off the coast of your neighbor. If that isn't using islands as an offensive tool I'm not sure what it is. It's all irrelevant though, the way things are going I don't think the Greeks will be able to keep those islands long term anyway. Eventually they'll come for you.

  26. To be fair a lot of France's sales involve a lot of bullying by the regime in Paris when it feels it has the opportunity to do so. It's also interesting that a nation with an extremely weak military itself is able to sell 3 billion dollars worth of military tech.

Why interfere with the central bank to gain an advantage in an election if the elections are rigged? Use your head man before shouting out tired cliches which crumble when put under a microscope. I'm not a fan of the dude myself but I'd imagine it's for the voters of that country to decide.

According to your logic Poland would have retroactively be committing itself to any future rule the EU passes and then be put in a position for it to be "enforced" Hmm. That would be like you joining my club and agreeing to all the rules of my club. Then suddenly my club makes a new rule claiming you have to slap an old lady in the face every Sunday. Then the rest of us saying we can force you to do it because you made a "commitment" to follow our rules. Your logic or lack there of is insanity. You literally want to give the EU leaders mafia type powers? Should they make Poland an offer it can't refuse?

Ignoring other referendums in other nation states as if they never happened is also sooo democratic. Phhhfffttt the will of people?? Irrelevant. Then you have even worse authoritarian issues in some of the nation states. Like France for example. Imagine claiming to be a free and open society while you have thought crimes on the books. Just imagine. In France you can be fined or imprisoned for having an opinion the state doesn't like. You might want to look into that. Soviet Union 2.0 here we come.....

  35.  @compuholic82  One oil tanker blows and an area where nearly 10 million people live will be ravished. The traffic in that little waterway is begging for this to happen. Anything that lightens the load decreases the chance of such a ecological and economic disaster. Not to mention the economic side of things as the Turks are unable to charge tolls for cargo ships passing through this narrow strait. There are plenty of reasons to build it, it's not a coincidence that rulers of that region since the 1500s have been looking to do this. With that said, I'm still not sure it's a great idea to build it. I don't know enough about how much ecological damage it will cause to the area being dug out or if the cost of it doesn't warrant how much they'll make in return. These are things I'd imagine are being debated. As far as reasoning for wanting to build it, it makes sense.

France being in the colonizer club can pretty much do as it pleases. But Poland, yea Poland must obey... I don't think they realize those days are over, I don't think the Poles will bend the knee so easily.

I"d imagine the French and the Germans aren't very interested in hearing what the Poles views on future policy matters are. They'll set the policy and expect Poland like a good little boy to follow. When they don't, they'll threaten and smear them.

You liking the mafia doesn't mean it isn't a mafia. Why not ask some citizens on smaller/weaker nations if they believe the EU behaves like a mafia or not.
