In the middle of a conflict which might affect the entire world what is he thinking that his words will have any kind of weight. He basically went there, got scolded by Putin and went home. A low level state department official from America would have commanded more respect than Macron did.

That is the entire fear that Ukraine will be used as a base at their doorstep. They will invade before those missiles are operational. That's literally the worst idea I've heard in a while.

To be fair civilians aren't being targeted and mass slaughtered in Ukraine. In Gaza they are. Ukraine is fighting a war (men vs men) Gaza is more like an extermination.

@sfullernj It's actually a very rational whataboutism because they're referring to the law. Laws which aren't applied equally stop being laws. If you got arrested for something your neighbor was also openly doing (with no consequence). A whataboutism would also be your first line of defense.

If he wanted peace, he could easily start by stopping his nation's occupation and economic exploitation of so many African countries. @michaelbinney9913 There have been plenty of wars around the globe in the past decade. None of which saw a civilian vs armed male kill ratio like Gaza. None of them were literally even close to it. More civilians were killed in Gaza in 2 weeks, than all the conflicts in the entire world combined since 2020. Including the huge nearly two year war between Ukraine and Russia. So no, no one has forgotten any of those wars including Yemen (which was horrible.) But none of those conflicts have the shock value of the conflict in Gaza where you have a high tech military which is literally going out of it's way to slaughter civilians. The world hasn't seen something like this since WW2.

@conorryan5983 At what point do we the people bear responsibility as well for allowing our leaders (using our tax dollars) to go around the world slaughtering poor people? Yes the government lied to us about Iraq but what did we learn? We cheered and clapped while they completely and utter destroyed Libya years later. We'll probably cheer and clap while they do it to some other random third world nation in a few years time. Again I'm not too sure about things in the UK but here in the US it's business as usual.

Even on the highest end estimate, the civilian deaths in the nearly 2 year huge Ukraine/Russia war has seen less civilian deaths than the IDF killed in Gaza in two weeks. This is a demonstrable fact. You can be pro Russia, you can be pro Ukraine. But both sides on this debate agree that this is an old fashioned war, where you have groups of armed men fighting other groups of armed men. What Israel is doing however is essentially bombing the living hell out of women and children from far. Very different.

This case wasn't about if Israel is committing genocide or not, that case is different and will take 2.3 years (which Israel will probably lose considering the amount of evidence against them) This specific case bought in by South Africa was to prove to the court that potential genocide might be happening and if South African can demonstrate enough evidence it is, the court will rule for it to be stopped immediately. Apparently the court found South Africa's case to be compelling and ordered Israel to stop the abuses. South African won the case.

@dannyarcher6370 It seems you have no idea what this proceeding was about. This wasn't a court case on if Israel is committing genocide or not. South Africa's case was that there enough evidence going on that the court should should open a case to prove if there is or isn't genocide. Not to mention the secondary issue of the court ordering Israel to stop any act which breaks the convention. The case which will determine if Israel is or isn't guilty of genocide needed this ruling to get started. It will take about 2-3 years. Aside from influence, threats and intimidating. I'm not sure how Israel is going to win that case considering the overwhelming amount of evidence. So no, the judges didn't disagree with me. You simply don't even understand what this case was about. I doubt you even watched the proceedings leading up to this ruling or even bothered reading South Africa's 82 page complaint briefing sent to the court. You are obvious making an emotional assessment of the situation based on what you want to be true more so than what is true. Unfortunately for you, facts don't care about your feelings, nor does that law.

The difference is (we know this through testimony from hostages released from both sides recently) Israel has abused, starved, physically beaten and in some cases raped their hostages. The hostages released by Hamas said they were treated well. So yes, it is very different.

@WW3_Soon It doesn't mean either. This court case wasn't about if Israel is committing genocide or not, that ruling will take 2-3 years. This case was legally and specifically if there is enough evidence for the court to issue an order to stop due to the potential for genocide. The court obviously found the evidence of overwhelming that there is a huge potential that genocide is happening and ruled in favor of South Africa by issuing an order to stop. The way you're trying to spin this to absolve Israel of it's crimes is quite ridiculous.

@Jecel Butalid, I'm fairly sure Jesus doesn't approve of taking people's homes by force, killing women and children, putting millions of people in an open air prison and letting them rot there, Jesus would also frown upon ethnic cleansing. I'd imagine Jesus also wouldn't look to favorably upon people who defend these actions and help embolden the people behind these crimes.

The Azeris haven't behaved this way when they retook the region. The only genocide anyone is aware of in this region was what the Armenians did in the 1990s.

@denizb.4142 Odd comment Deniz. Nato didn't invade Iraq, Libya, Syria and Afghanistan did. America did with nations who were willing to follow, none of those were Nato operations. Serbia was more so a Nato operation but lets be honest, it was one of the few times we've seen western intervention somewhere which actually had a positive result.

The difference is the Brits are aware of this reality while France is still under this assumption they're some worldwide heavy weight. @Amen.Ahmed1 I lived in Florida for 2 decades. I've also been to Antalya at least 5 times on vacation. As far as beauty, safety and an overall place to visit. Florida doesn't really compare with Antalya.

@sergeyb8 Me personally I don't think it should have anything to do with Ukraine. But if you look at it from how the Serbian point of view the situation changes. Most people (not just Serbians) see this as a proxy war between Nato and Russia. The Serbians having been bombed by Nato not too long ago obviously feel a certain way about it. I doubt Serbians have any issues with Ukrainians but the fact Ukraine is being backed by Nato is pushing the Serbians to feel the way they feel. Again I'm not saying I agree with their point of view, I'm just trying to explain why they feel the way they do. Me personally I am heavily pro Ukraine but that doesn't mean I can't understand why other people wouldn't be.

@sergeyb8 Actually there are entire fields of study to try to figure out why serial killers do what they do. That is what humans do, they try to figure things out. I don't think anyone is trying to change your opinion on the matter. I know Slavs aren't known for this but you need to check your emotions and try to be more rational.

Sounds like a workable solution to me. But if you look at the history of this conflict Armenia has never exactly been rational when offered terms. Azerbaijan actually offered them a MUCH MUCH better deal in the late 1990s and they rejected it. They'll probably reject this one too and end up with nothing.

So way back in the day a deal wasn't offered to Kocharian by Aliyev's father which would have essentially allowed Armenia to keep Karabakh and even keep like 40% of the surrounding regions as well? This simply never happened? Also it seems like Armenia ceased to be a state a long time ago, they just weren't aware of it at the time. When you're landlocked and have border disputes with every single one of your neighbors except the Islamic State of Iran. Death of the nation isn't far away. But as I said earlier they had chances and were offered good deals, continually rejected them for 30 years. I feel bad for regular Armenians but I don't feel bad for the insane leadership who has put that nation in a position from which it probably isn't going to survive another 50 years. You might want to do a bit of research on the history of these negotiations before coming out in an emotional state and calling someone who is stating well known facts a "liar." Your level of cognitive dissonance is alarming.

They did as much as they could do considering the intense and insane pressure they were under. I'm shocked they were able to go this far. You might want to look into comments of the Kremlin's official spokesperson after the meeting. He basically said, what is the point in negotiating this with France when they aren't the ones who decide. Gives us some insight as to what the official view in Moscow was to Macron's visit to discuss Russia's tensions with the west. Either an outside party has to mediate or Russia must negotiate directly with the United States. Sending some micky mouse president like Macron is nothing but a show for his domestic consumption, not to mention the fact it probably insulted the Russians.

Just because people who happen to belong to your group are having a ton of babies elsewhere doesn't mean you're not being driven out of your home or that a specific region or city is not being ethnically cleansed. You can play word games all you want but it won't work on people who have even a minimal amount of reason and logic. They said no because they wanted it all. Negotiating with people that deep into their own cognitive dissonance must be quite frustrating. I can understand why after 30 years Azerbaijan gave up and settled the issue by force. The only thing keeping Azeri forces from marching on Yerevan is essentially the Russians. And yet the Armenians are now turning their backs on the Russians. You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried. The insanity in their society and body politic is absolutely mind numbing.

@iainphillips3725 I've never been to either Armenia or Azerbaijan, closest I've been was a 5 day visit to Georgia (beautiful nation). I've also only met one Azeri in my entire life who was a fairly nice guy and have met around 20 Armenians who for the most part were very nice people as well. With that said, lets not turn this into a ridiculous shit fest of identity based debated. The facts are the facts and I'm merely articulating the reality of the situation which for one reason or another you refuse to accept.

@iainphillips3725 You might want to look up how many refugees ended up in Azerbaijan, all well verified by independent sources. With some people there seems to be a huge disconnect with what is and what they want to be. It seems that is what I'm dealing with here. You also should realize this wasn't that long ago and many of the people who perpetrated these crimes are still alive, many of them still in the armed forces of Armenian Karabakh. Well now lets say what is left of them.

If you compare the situation in Gaza to the situation in Ukraine, what Putin is doing is nowhere near genocide. More civilians have been killed in Gaza in 2 weeks than the total number of civilians killed in the huge Russia/Ukriane war which has lasted nearly two years. Neither the Russians or the Ukrainians are actually targeting or actively trying to kill civilians. Hence the relatively low civilian deaths when compared to Israel's extermination of the people in the concentration camp called Gaza.

Russia is a second rate power, I don't think you'll find one rational person who believes France's military might surpasses Russia's. France is losing it's grip in Mali as even the tribesmen there are realizing France is a third rate power and are in the process of trying to kick them out of Mali. This is probably a very good thing for the people of Mali because how long should they be subjugated, controlled and economically exploited by the regime in Paris? As far as French influence in Libya, aside from playing a leading role in destroying that nation for no apparent reason, their influence there is waning beyond repair. They are having difficulty exerting any sort of influence on events unfolding there. Read up on it sometime, why do you think France is so hot skipping mad that Turkey entered the Libyan conflict and swayed the conflict in a different direction. France at this point is nearly powerless in Libya. Compare all this to 20 or even 10 years ago. French influence is dying off and their opponents can smell the blood in the water. As again it's probably a very good thing for the well being of average citizens in places like Libya, Algeria and other African nations who have suffered so much from French brutality.

It was about is there enough evidence to show that it is potentially happening and that being used to order them to stop. For the court to make even that kind of ruling shows the mountain of evidence against Israel. The real genocide case which is starting soon will take about 2-3 years to conclude. If that court isn't somehow politically coopted, Israel is going to be found guilty. The evidence is quite overwhelming.

South Africa's lawsuit was to kick start a court case for genocide. They had to prove there was enough evidence that genocide could potentially be taken place to spark the genocide trial. South Africa won. The question of if Israel is guilty of genocide or not is a trial that will take 2-3 and now the wheels have been set in motion.
