@custer13 Turkey itself does have a rich history of crimes. But the issue at hand here is Cyprus. And on Cyprus I'd imagine the Cypriots living in the south have a pretty rich history of recent crimes themselves no? You can't really attempt as a majority on the island to exterminate a minority group on the island and expect no one will notice. It really doesn't work that like that.

This is a conflict I've been curious about and studied. I've come to the conclusion that the status quo simply won't change. The island is partitioned and will probably remain so forever.

@jonchrys They didnt' mass slaughter civilians in Cyprus nor did they stick them in concentration camps. What you're saying isn't only false, it is demonstrably false.

@Mcmeyer1785. The difference is no one is being displaced. Not to mention the local government has a full blown process on who comes in and who doesn't. I fail to see how this can be related to what is going on in the west bank. Where settlements are made through violence and without the consent of local power structures.

@custer13 There are examples of this all over the world. Like Haiti and the Dominican republic. When the majority on the island proves it simply cannot live with or give rights to that minority, a two state solution is the only solution which will stop people from dying. How many have died in violence on Cyprus since 1974? I also find it interesting how you'll skill over the brutal ethnic cleansing attempt by the minority and talk about the "suffering" caused by an action which saved the minority from being wiped off the island. It is all just very interesting and defies and logic and reason. Anyone who follow this knows that 2004 was essentially the last chance that island had at being reunified. That ship sailed, that island will forever be partitioned. A state in the south and a state in the north. Only way to really make sure no one gets massacred in the future.

@jonchrys Again what you're saying is not only false, it is demonstrably false. "It never happened look the other way."
2
@jonchrys Why do all you genocide and ethnic cleansing deniers all use the same exact arguments? Do you all go to the same seminar on how to deny war crimes or something?
2
@jonchrys You mean get into the details of your unhinged rant which tries to rationalize mass slaughter, ethnic cleansing, racism and genocide? I think I'll pass.
2
@Ukrainipyat, That is the question a lot of people were asking in 2004. But the answer is quite simple, if you make the rules, you can break the rules no?
2
You do realize the guy was popularly elected right?

@nolaguy71 Did you ever think of what might happen if you decided to go full blown SS Waffen on a small minority group? Actions like that rarely end well. Just like the Germans didn't complain about getting displaced from many areas when they lost WW2. If you know the old street American adage. "Don't start nuffin, there won't be nuffin" Also it isn't ethnic cleansing if the people who feel guilty of what they've done decide to flee assuming everyone else will act like they did. None of your misguided emotional pleas will change the fact that island is divided and will probably remain so for a very long time. Perhaps until the majority on the island can prove to the minority that they're not going to brutally ethnically cleanse them again. (Which I doubt will happen anytime soon)

@ read my comments again you rocket scientist. I was responding to the op’s claim comparing what Turkey did to what Israel is doing. Not what the Greek Cypriots did compared to what Israel is doing. Learn how to comprehend what you’re reading
1
@jonchrys Cool story bro. You could write 1000 pages of emotional BS but it won't change the fact a massive ethnic cleansing campaign was undertaken on the island.
1
@jonchrys Bro, the historical fact on the matter is clear. I get it. You're like one of those Turks who clutch at straws claiming the Armenian genocide never happened or like one of those Serbs who pretends the Serbs never committed genocide against the Bosnians. Clutching at straws over straws over straws. Not only is it nonsensical, everyone knows it is BS. Just admit what the Greek Cypriots tried to do and move on.
1
@ So you're telling me magically their crimes somehow count and yours don't? Is that what you're telling me here? I should highlight their crimes and ignore yours? Interesting logic, good luck selling it.
1
@ Why is it that every single genocide, ethnic cleansing and war crimes denier uses the same exact tactics and arguments to deny the crimes? Do all of you Cypriots, Turks, Serbians, Armenians and Israelis go to the same "how to deny war crimes seminar"
1
@Ιωσήφ-σ2λ You actually alluded to it pretty heavily. I was quite obvious in claiming Turks have committed atrocities and should be held accountable. But I was responding to a guy who was completely ignoring what the Greek Cypriots did. You claiming that such thinking is wrong is basically saying I should ignore the crimes of the Greek Cypriots and just concentrate on other people's crimes. Which btw is pure and utter insanity. Also correct me if I'm wrong but a minority group targeted for mass extermination is by definition a victim. You're literally asking me to blame the rape victim for scratching the rapist's face. You won't convince any rational third party with that argument. You'll find yourself saying "here we go again" over and over again if you continue to use these insane debate tactics.
1
@Ιωσήφ-σ2λ Btw I think that is line item number 12 at the "how to deny war crimes convention" Pretend it never happened and accuse anyone who points out the reality of being what they just accused you of. Well played bro. lol I literally just got called naive by an ethnic cleansing denier. What a wonderful world we live in.
1
@andreksjour so all those mass killings didn’t happen? Are you going to turn into one of those ethic cleansing deniers? Just because you don’t like a political arrangement doesn’t mean you can go full blown hitler on people.
1
@aaronj5053. Unification makes absolutely no sense for either side at this point. The Turks in the north are afraid they'd have no protection if the Greeks in the south decided to go full blown ethnic cleansing mode as they have in the past. The Greeks for their part wouldn't find it in their interests to unify if they took a look at how much it would cost them to bring the north back up to speed. It would probably cost them about 30% GDP if not more for a few decades. Once your average Greek Cypriot voter realizes that they'll have to pay 1/3 of their salary to bring the north up to speed, you'll see them back away from this idea. There are two states on that island and neither side really has anything to gain from reunification. Too much of a security risk of the Turks of the north and too much of a financial burden for the Greeks in the south. Not gonna happen.
