@Man Dan90, the difference is those nations have the ability to weather the storm. So the result really isn't the same, Europe in the long term is in a lot more danger. The social unrest in France and some other EU nations in the next 50 years is going to be nasty.

@henkholdingastate Look at it from their point of view. They saw what happened to Iraq and Afghanistan. They'd rather deal with the sanctions and be poor with nukes, than have no sanctions, be rich and then have everything destroyed. I personally wouldn't like to see them with nukes. Then everyone in the region is going to try to get nukes and that isn't a pleasant outcome for anyone. But at the same time if I were in their shoes I'd probably want nukes as well. Bluntly put they're terrified.

@Celster833, Essentially the answer to your question is yes. If Iran gets the bomb, we don't intervene. We invaded Iraq because they didn't have it, if they did we wouldn't have. Not to mention occupying Iran would be almost impossible when you take their geography into account. It's not flatland like Iraq is.
