  7. @Robert Lundkvist, Finland isn't an issue, they can join immediately if they want. They're just not because they're saying they have to join together with Sweden. The problem is of Sweden financing armed groups which are blowing up schools and hospitals in a Nato member state. You can see how awkward it is to join a military alliance while at the same time helping people blow up schools and hospitals in a member state of said alliance.

  9. I can't believe this reporter called it a "momentous occasion." Has this guy been living under a rock? Turkey was going to give the go ahead for Finland, they've been vocal about this for more than 6 months. The issue was Finland coupling in their bid to Nato with Sweden's bid which was holding them up. Now Finland did what everyone was saying they had to do and is applying to Nato on their own and they will be approved. For Sweden it won't be so easy if even possible.

  11.  @sampohonkala4195  They'll be in very soon. Nato provides extra security for Finland and Finland brings amazing strategic depth to Nato due to it's geography. All the emotional nonsense about how they wanted to walk with the Swedes no matter what was never going to last.

  16. @David Ray. Sweden trying to join Nato while at the same time financing an armed group which is attacking a Nato member is very awkward. Pointing this out isn't a "bad negotiation position either." It's simply stating the obvious. Regardless of how poor they're getting I don't think they enjoy seeing seeing their schools and hospitals blown up courtesy of Swedish funding.

  20. @Emmanuelonuoha1880. I'd imagine the Azeris agree with you. When the Armenians invaded this region in the 1990s they brutally ethnically cleansed 800,000 civilians. When Azerbaijan reinvaded in 2020 roughly 20 civilians were killed. Looks like the cycle of hatred and ethnic cleansing is over with the Azeris showing restraint. The type of restraint which wasn't shown to them in the 1990s.

  21. @Simsil Pasic It would make sense to provide the context under which Erdogan had to flirt with Putin. It begs the question if the larger members of Nato are loyal to specific Nato members. Lets not forget the oddity of other Nato members refusing to sell Turkey air DEFENSE systems. Odd that their "allies" wouldn't sell them air defense systems and they had to purchase it from Russia. What ally would deny their ally a defensive system. Makes you wonder who was "disloyal"

  22. I'm thinking perhaps Armenia took itself for a ride. The Azeris tried to negotiate for 30 years to get their internationally recognized territory back, Armenia had zero intention of negotiating anything. It is what it is.

  29. @SFSarkis, The Azeris offered to return the captives in exchange for Armenia giving them maps of all the mines they planed in civilian areas. The Armenians refused. Apparently the prospect of killing more innocent civilians with these mines are more important to them than getting their soldiers back. Also a group of people's freedom doesn't start where half a million people are ethnically cleansed. Try not to be so evil.

  31. @Sot11cat, If you'd bother to pay attention to what is happening in that country it's actually the other way around. Vetoing Sweden and Finland is a huge headache for the government but they have no choice because elections are coming and the people are putting intense pressure on the government to veto Sweden. It's an awkward situation considering Sweden is trying to join a collective defense alliance while at the same time financing armed groups which are blowing up hospitals and schools in the country which is part of said alliance. Needless to say they aren't happy.

However it probably plays in less than 5% of the cause nor are we sure with if those regulations in place would have stopped the run at SVB. Considering that regulation prohibits risky bets, SVB made a huge bet on bonds which the wording of the legislation doesn't consider risky. The biggest problem is the amount of money we've printed in the past 3 years and the near zero interest rates for so long. This led to massive inflation and the Sanctions on Russia didn't help that either. But you know how this game is played, the people in power will always look for a convenient scape goat.

  49. @Abanerjee5066. Actually it isn't a problem at all nor was it turned into one. No nation actually sanctioned Azerbaijan or took action against it due to it's 2020 military intervention. Because the intervention was within international law and they were enforcing a plethora of UN resolutions. A few ridiculous media outlets crying foul doesn't change the end result reaction of nations to this.
