Turkey was never in the EU, how exactly are they going to leave? If by leave you mean leave their orbit of influence, then yes that has already happened. Integrating Turkey into the EU (which would be massively difficult) might have been the only thing that could in the long term have saved the EU. Granting them more hard power and the geostrategic advantage of getting at cheap fossil fuels and natural resources from the Caucasus and the middle east in an entire supply chain they could control and defend. That ship has sailed. I think all that can be done is not sit by the bed of a dying EU waiting for it to die. Might take a few decades but it is going to happen.

@mike747436 In the long term I think the EU will find it was far from unifying but more the opposite. The economic pain in the coming decades will tear the EU apart. Especially eastern European nations, they're not a fan of the heavy hand of the EU but they put up with it for the economic benefits. Once those economic benefits dry up (and they will) then it's open season. Best case scenario the EU dies a slow death over the next few decades. Worse case it won't even exist in 15 years.

@mike747436 It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see where this is headed.

@mike747436 There is something called logic and reason. Europe's entire economic model was based on sourcing cheap natural resources and hydrocarbons. As far as predictions go, can you please explain to me how exactly Europe is going to gain access to cheap energy to fuel their industry? Crack open a map and explain to me exactly what the game plan is, to stop my prediction from coming to fruition. What qualifies me to make this prediction is the fact I'm not an idiot and see the obvious. Nor am I the only one who feels that way, why do you think the leaders in the EU are in absolute panic right now. They see what everyone else sees and what you don't want to see. The only thing that may have given Europe access to cheap energy would have been absorbing Turkey and their geography into the EU. That would have given Europe not only access to bring in energy in a cheap way but also the geography to control the supply routes of said energy along with the military might to protect it. That ship has sailed and this is no longer a possibility. The Turks too see exactly what I'm saying and they have zero interest in playing this game with a dying EU anymore.

EU is left with two choices you say, adapt or die. Well looking at the decision making mechanisms of the EU, it's fairly obvious which option they will pick. They will die. Their entire economy was based on cheap natural resources and fossil fuels from Russia. Now that this is off the table, they will die for sure. They no longer have the ability to project power to go out and get these resources at prices which can keep their industry alive. EU<-----Dead man walking.

If it can't change then it will die. It won't just be the EU that died, once great powers like France and Germany will turn into third tier nations.
