@kaykay865 You might want to do a quick google search. If Russia owned the Bosphorus how come their northern fleet can't enter the war zone and are stuck in the Med Sea? According to your logic are they blocking their own ships? lol

@MatthewMS Probably for the same reason you don't speak Turkish. Think on that a bit.

@vancemead5956 Nearly 1/3rd of Turkey's population is Kurdish. That has to be one of the worst executions of genocide in human history lol

@Reza Man, the only reason Nato works is because every member has a veto Don't forget every single nation in Nato is under legal obligation to join a war if a member state is attacked. If every nation in the organization isn't comfortable doing that it makes the entire organization fragile.

Without this being a commentary of how I feel about the war. I am impressed by this woman's bravery just as I am impressed by this soldiers professionalism. If only all soldiers in all warzones acted this way with civilians. Considering how the Russians have been behaving in Syria I was afraid this woman was going to get her head blown off just for looking at this soldier funny. Kudos to the soldier.

@Ebere Amaechi-Akuechiama, If Germany had allowed Ukraine in 2008 most of us might be dead right now from a global nuclear war. But that is debatable. What isn't debatable is that Nato would collapse of member states didn't have a veto. You need to understand when a new nation joins every other nation is under legal obligation to a join a war if that nation is attacked. If you allow members in that other members aren't willing to go to war far, it undermines the entire workings of Nato.

@kaykay865 When they're bombarding a coastline during a war in which they're performing real poorly, surely they wouldn't need the bulk of their navy in the fight right? Surely if they had the ability to bring that Navy there they wouldn't be constantly complaining that they're banned from doing so right? Surely after having their flagship sunk (which was utterly embarrassing) they wouldn't be thinking "maybe if we had more vessels protecting it this wouldn't happen." Your contention that the Russians control the straits is absolute insanity.

@Robert Burk, forget kicking them out, the powers that be wouldn't even let them leave if they tried. They'd probably stage an overthrow of their government just to keep them in. The strategic importance is too great. Also the last thing you need is the most capability military in that entire region now on the other side. As annoying as they are with a lot of things, their concerns over Sweden joining Nato are very valid. How exactly can you join a defense network when you're financing armed groups which are blowing up hospitals and schools in a member state of the same defense network. It's simply awkward.

@austindarrenor So you believe those there longer should have a say in who can enter and who the other members will go to war to protect? An organization structured like that won't last long. It might also fall apart as soon as the bullets start flying.
1
@austindarrenor That could be a workable solution but wouldn't carry the same political weight as being a member of Nato. smaller side alliances would have less political if a country decides not to adhere to it's principles for what ever reason. The easiest solution I'd imagine would be for Sweden to simply apologize for financing armed groups which are blowing up hospitals and schools in a Nato country and cut the financing off to these groups. Then they'll be allowed in quite easily.

@rezaman2080 "Turkey who doesn't like Sweden for WHAT EVER reason?" Did you seriously say that? The reason is fairly clear. Sweden is financing armed groups which are attacking Turkey. It's odd to join a defense alliance when you're financing an armed group attacking a member of that alliance no? But yea they don't like them for "what ever reason." lol

@bradwilliams1598 To be fair this usually isn't true in most conflicts.
