  1. I was conditioned growing up in the 60s to believe that "the future" would happen, by 2000 and even before. And it did seem to be in the making; they were putting men on the moon when I was 8. It's the year 2023, and everybody thinks the earth is flat, post-Middle Ages technological developments in pain treatment are demonized, people are naming their babies "Seth" and "Josh", etc
