  1. I tell people something similar about residential AC systems: IF (and it's a BIG if) the installation has been done absolutely correctly, never let anyone touch it. Just be sure the inside filter (evaporator coil filter) is clean and does not exceed MERV 8, keep the area around the outside condenser free of debris/invasive vegetation and clean. NO seasonal "checkups", etc. You can suspend a lid over the top of the unit when not in use but DON'T cover it otherwise. Do these things and your system can last for decades. I replaced my own home systems after 47 years! And they were still working when replaced.

  2.  @rj.parker  As I said, the systems must be kept clean. "Checkup" for me is the following: I look at the moisture sensor to be sure it's green. I measure the supply temp and compare it with the return temp. I listen to the running compressor, condenser fan and air handler fan. I make sure condensate is draining, replace the filters (I have 3) if necessary and that's it.
