I don't totally disagree with you but I'll say a few things (since you asked for my unsolicited opinion). 1, you don't need a degree in education (or a degree at all) to be a substitute teacher in most states. Secondly, part of his ability to teach is tied to a certain level of respect so he can keep the students' attention. I'm not saying that all the kids are gonna try to call him a faggot every chance they get. I'm just saying that his past might make him less effective in his job.
