I disagree. A public official is expected to call it down the middle. Moreover, he's making a public display of his own stupidity. Not only that, he ruined his town's chance of a presidential visit.

Perhaps I should refine that. I was looking at the TN constitution: Article VIII, Section 1 (1796) "...no minister of the gospel, or priest of any denomination whatever, shall be eligible to a seat in either house of the legislature." Ministers can't set state-level policy. But nonsense like that is scary too. It's a conflict of interest to have ministers in the congress. I'm more alarmed that citizens/voters are oblivious to laws that governs them. BUT, Tennessee is a beautiful place.

I don't disagree with that but it's a logical fallacy if it's framed such that having an Arabic name makes 1 a Muslim. Equating language to religion is tantamount to comparing thumbtacks ti cheeseburgers.

WHAT shoe?

You da man.

Are you serious?

Okay. I dig your answer. You're talking abut what's lost in translation. As an ESL person (Spanish is my 1st), I agree. BUT, I just get uptight when I hear something that sounds remotely paleo-conservative. Sometimes, I hear what you said but it gets interpreted (lol) as "you're not a real Muslim if you're not an Arab" or "you're not a real Catholic if you're not Italian or Irish". I just get concerned that people are saying that mode & theme are missed & therefore, it loses integrity.

So if I speak Arabic & Farsi, does that automatically make me a Muslim? Nope. As it happens, some Christians & Judaists speak Arabic. You failed there. My father is a lot of things to a lot of people. Does that imply that I'm all the same things to the same people? Nope. Epic failure there too. You got something substantive or are you gonna just repeat talking points?

You don't have proof that he is. Moreover, this is America. The burden of proof in on the accuser (you). Stop making a fool of yourself.

It sounds nice to fling around numbers. That's an attempt at being "official". But it doesn't gain you any traction. You pulled that number out of your ass. Irrespective of your lies, you haven't satisfied the burden of proof. FAIL.

I disagree w/you (in a small part) about the removal of cultural setting though. 1) I'm a big reader; I can read something & "put myself there". Although I'm stuck with my classical, Western education & I'm very much a part of the Western construct, I'm also aware of the rest of the world. Ultimately, it's about theme in my opinion. I think any curious & sensitive person can grasp theme no matter what's been changed in the semantics.

The reason they wanna associate him with Muslims is because makes their racism more palatable for themselves. I guess if my name were Nicholas, I must be German & therefore a raging racist. I guess if my name were Abijah, I must be a door-knocking Iehovah's witness. I guess if my my name is Eric, I must be a viking. Following their reasoning, all would have to be true.

@Mechelle68 You live in a scary state. But for what it's worth, no minister is supposed to hold office in TN either.

1) It's Arabic, not Muslim. I know more than 1 person who has Hussein as a 1st name. I also know more than 1 person who has but is not Muslim. 2) Hussein is NOT his surname (family name). It's his middle name.
1
I ain't tryna jump on you but be a little better than them (just a little. I don't mind dirty fighting but fight intelligently). Only an idiot would presume what you're thinking. Moreover, no 1 worships the Bible, people worship deities (not books). Above all, attack his content not the theme of his rhetoric. Otherwise, keep going. Godspeed (lol) Peace.

The burden of proof is not on me my friend. In THIS country, the burden falls upon the accuser. But before you og off the deep end, let's review a few things. 1) Obama's father stopped being calling himself a Muslim in his early teens. Moreover, he was never a "radical". 2) Hussein is an ARABIC name, not a Muslim name. The name means "handsome". 3) The birther nonsense is, and always was, a MOOT argument.
1
That was pretty non-sequitir. Nevertheless, Obama's background has already been researched. And for ME, he's simply the President.
1
You're slow.

Define "full appreciation". Must I read hindi or sanskrit to "fully" appreciate the Gita? Must I be illiterate to "fully" appreciate the Book of Mormon? Must I read Japanese to "fully" appreciate the depth of Shinto? Must I read Nepali to "get" Buddhism?

Dude, you have no facts. You're parroting some shit you hear from Glenn Beck or some other source of conservative propaganda. But most of all, it's a moot point. Let it go sparky. Whine about health care. Whine about the extension of 2 wars & the fact that Iran is getting nervous. Whine about Kim Jong Il. Whine about unemployment. But that bullshit you're talking is a tired, irrelevant, red herring. That is all. Lunatic.
1
BTW, not all Muslims speak Arabic.
1
Have you ANY idea how flawed & fallacious your comment was?
1
I don't think so.
1
Queen, let it go. Don't argue with fools.
1
You are a lunatic.
1
I'm not a liberal. I'm a radical. But that has dick to do with this conversation. You're using logic here. You're using Glenn Beck's logic. The thing about lunatics is that it actually makes sense in their own minds. I couldn't watch MSNBC because I don't even own a functioning television set (mine's been broken for YEARS & TV sucks so much that it wasn't worth repairing) let alone pay for cable. I've got newspaper, newsletters & library card. Stop making a fool of yourself. Lunatic.
1
Well put. But wasted on the wrong people. Try to reason with the idiots if you like. It might be more serving to just point & laugh.
