Here's more evidence: They had superior numbers. They have superior gear at their disposal to deal with uncooperative suspects. They're thoroughly trained in how to deal with uncooperative suspects. I could even argue that once they started beating him, he tried to protect himself & that made it seem like he was resisting. That's not unreasonable. But even still, 1 man at each of Kelly's arms & 1 man on each leg is only 4. That leaves 2 men free to assist in cuffing him. No excuse for this.

@brothanick Thank you. It doesn't take 6 cops to subdue a man (not even a guy with crazy person strength). Moreover, they had no business beating him up. Someone could've tackled him & held him down while the other cop applied leg restraints. The rest would've been academic. Kelly didn't have to be beaten to death. Schizo or not, someone cared about that man & now he's gone. That's fucked up.

@xxdonaldqxxx So what if I AM impressed by myself. That's my business. Why don't you address my premise instead making childish remarks. Do we (humanity) need to take better care of ourselves? Yes. Want some evidence? Here's some: a young man was beaten to death by police. Nuff sed. You say "we need protection" but the police obviously aren't doing it. Worse yet is that there's no mechanism to check & balance the police. What say you?

@xxdonaldqxxx You're such an imbecile. There's no excuse for what was done here. And no, we don't really need cops. What we need is a self-contained society needs to get to the root of crime. What we need is a society that won't let its sons & daughters fall through the cracks like this young man did. We don't need cops. We need humanity. We need enough resources to take care of ourselves.

@Kaiysith Exactly. What people don't understand is that a taser, although considered "non-lethal", is still an extremely dangerous weapon. It's not a cure-all for challenging situations. Also, there's no reason for 6 men to beat 1 man into a coma; let alone beating him to death.
1
@jontaylor1986 You're missing the point. I'll repeat it: under no circumstance is violence the proper punishment for a non-violent crime. Under no circumstance is it fitting for police to stomp a man that's already prone. You're not a health care professional. Under no circumstance are you allowed to diagnose a person's level of competence due to mental health. A car is a manufactured machine made of metal & petroleum. A person is made of flesh & bone. Someone loved Kelly. Kelly was murdered.

@717rch He wasn't a "bum". He was a homeless man who suffered from mental illness. Aside from that, You don't write like a person who went to an institute of higher learning; let alone excelled at college level coursework. But it's probable that you don't have a job. At least you're not totally dishonest. Six men beating one man to death is not "working hard". Six men beating one man is called "murder". Stop trolling.

Simply saying "we weren't there so we can't judge" is NOT an acceptable argument. We have evidence. Simply chalking it up to him being crazy is NOT an acceptable argument. Here's the credible evidence: They used 6 men to nab the guy. He was tased 5 (FIVE) times. The eyewitness in the video remarked that he was already prone while they continued the assault instead of cuffing him. They beat him into a coma. He needed life support. They pulled the plug. He died. What else do you want? Idiot.

@jontaylor1986 You are an imbecile. Breaking into a car isn't grounds to beat a guy up. This is a CIVILIZED society. Aside from that, you're acting like he's competent enough to have malice. He was probably just tryna steal some change form an ashtray. You have a lot of growing up to do.

Kaiysith is correct. Nothing warrants beating him. It's 1 thing to use very reasonable & very necessary force. If that were the case, nobody'd be complaining. The police are well-trained, well-equipped PROFESSIONALS who had superior numbers on their side. I'll even concede that 2 of the cops were injured (they tried to claim broken bones until the Times's reporters got hold to medical records). Ultimately, you're making excuses. They were supposed to ARREST him not BEAT him.

@xxdonaldqxxx The men that killed him get a trial but he doesn't? That's lousy reasoning on your part. Even if he DID have other violent encounters (he had been charged with assault with a deadly weapon when he was younger), there's no rational explanation for 6 cops beating him to death. If you think otherwise, you're an idiot. It's not like they were trying to subdue Shaquille O'Neal. As for the rest of your comment, I'll ignore it because it's less than coherent.

@tafxkz Alex Jones is a buffoon.

You're correct & incorrect. On 1 hand, he's an adult. On the other hand, his level of competence is in question because of his illness. Also, we don't know how severely affected he was by that illness. Therefore, if his competence was questionable, the family bears responsibility. To make an analogy, if my dog shits on your lawn I still have to pick it up even though I didn't do the shitting. However, we don't know the young man's family life. We don't know if they'd been keeping an eye on him.

@Kaiysith That's a shame. The kid didn't even get a moment to walk it off. Instead, he basically got assaulted. It's not like he was trying to hurt someone. He was trying to create space between himself & the situation. I know that school officials have to keep the kids on campus & what not but that's beyond the pale. I ain't all for people suing school systems & firing everyone but that kid deserves an official letter of apology.

@717rch I doubt that to be true about your "grades" or your "employment". Tell that lie to someone who's buying it. This man was not a bum. He was a mentally ill person who's support system either couldn't sustain him or neglected its job. "He can't be blameless". Okay. Let's say he was lucid when he broke into the car. Let's say the cops were leery that he may have been armed. Does that qualify beating & tasing a man while he lay prone?

@xxdonaldqxxx What a moron.

@deanmalone1 That's 1 person who was beaten to death by the very same people who are paid, trained & equipped to protect us. Spare me the "1 in 5000" bullshit. He wasn't a statistic. He was a PERSON. He was a person that was murdered.
