For 1, "all-time" hasn't gotten here yet & it never will be. 2ndly, you have to ask if you're talking about live-ball or dead-ball era then you have to consider the age of middle relief & closers. Then you have to consider things like the DH rule. What makes the best pitcher? ERA? Punchouts? W-L ratio? Lowest batting average? Durability? Unhittable knuckleballs? What's the rubric? Nolan Ryan is a favorite of mine. I also think Thigpen's feat as a closer is hard to outdo. Tough call.
