true. but a writer can spin in print, much more easily than letterman jiujitsued phoenix on his show. all that said, i don't really think phoenix has ever let anyone 'in'. especially after his brother died. but i could be wrong & heaven's knows i've never met the cat. i guess casey affleck (joaquin's bro-in-law) filming phoenix as if it were a spinal tap documentary is what makes me suspicious. (sheeeit) it's about time we had another spinal tap & again, he's VERY capable of that kinda work

don't forget that phoenix is an oscar quality actor. fucked up or not, if anyone can maintain that act; it's him. i'm thinking along the lines of andy kaufman/foreign man/tony clifton y'know. it looks like an experiment in surreal humor to me. but you could very well be correct. or maybe it's somewhere in the middle

nonsense. joaquin knows exactly what he's doing

hell yes. what's more, i love when letterman gets served those knuckleballs too. it's always fun to watch. madonna, crispin glover, mccain, etc. and HELL yes, joaquin's rapping couldn't be worse

i'd argue that phoenix is damn capable though. remember that character he played in that sean penn/j lo movie? i thought that shit was off-the-chart brilliant. phoenix fucking good at what he does. i think he really challenges himself too. OR, he could just get really high & i think it's depth because i'm full of shit. in either case, it's entertaining without a doubt
