All I can say is that my parents didn't know better. I can also say that I understand that their emotions run hot. Mine do to. Like I said, when I got strong enough to object, they finally started to respect that part of my humanity. Parents are people too. They're as flawed as anyone else. They can also be good teachers, good providers, good defenders & good people. I dare say that the newer generations lack the pluck of older generations because they've been treated with kid gloves.

(con't, II) In a very sick way, the girl is learning some valuable lessons. 1, she needs to get away from these people the first chance she has. 2, there are some people that are this brutal. 3, sometimes survival requires enduring a little bit of pain to avoid worse pain. I'm in no way validating this. Like I said, I'm just taking away the kid's phone altogether. But I know there are some people that are still living in the Dark Ages like this elected official. It's not pretty. It's reality.

@LuckyNoDice747 If I've told you on more than 1 occassion that you can't put a video game on the phone & you decide to set the agenda for yourself, as a parent, I'll be pissed. In my case though, I'm just taking away the phone. That's me. I never said it was justified, I just said that I don't live in that house & all I know about their household is a short snippet. That's not conslusive though (con't)

@LuckyNoDice747 Believe me. I don't think this is "right". In fact, it's light years away from how I handle things. What I'm saying is that there's much worse happening in the world. You also ask a very appropriate question about the frequency of this "discipline". But let's ask another question too. "Would the severity have been lessened if she just manned up & took her punishement from jumpstreet?" I'm inclined to say, "yes". Again, that don't make it right but that do make it real.

@LuckyNoDice747 I understand your frustration. Again, I got much worse beatings. When I finally let my parents know they'd die if they tried to beat me like that again, it stopped. It hurt because I really love M&P. But I also understood that they're from a different time. That said, I wouldn't wanna send this man to jail unless he's sent other men to jail for the same offense. What he does need is some serious, professional help. He also has no business being a judge ever again.

This is mild compared to the beatings I got. Yes, it's abuse by modern standards. But I don't know the entire context. I'm not saying that a kid can do something to make the parent seek "vengeance" or want to hurt his own seed. But what I AM saying is that she may have done something severe. But in the end, we all get beatings sometimes. And the truth is that we're forced to do things that we don't wanna do. There are ugly realities to life. I'm not condoning; just giving perspective.
