@Yashendwirh Hooters, on the other hand, is women who are making honest money serving food to patrons. Their looks & clothing are incidental. Do they get tipped better for being more attractive? Presumably so. But they're still performing a service in exchange for money tendered. That's not called exploitation. That's called making an honest living. And sure, there are makeup artists & clothing designers in pageants. And some people actually watch pageants for that. But they aren't the focus.

@Yashendwirh Bullshit. Since when do art critics determine anything? They just critique. If I compose a painting & it gets shelled by a critic but I still sell it to a collector, who's opinion is paramount? Don't worry, I'll wait for your answer.... I THOUGHT SO. Beauty pageants, Hooter's & Playboy magazine are not all the same thing. They share all share women as a common element but that's a far cry from how they are all perceived.

@Yashendwirh Have you ever been a server? If you were, you'd know that they're doing work. Their looks and clothing are incidental. If they lose a job because of weight gain, it's a contractual dispute. You're splitting your hairs pretty thin now. You don't understand logic so I scarcely doubt you'll wrap your mind around mine. But in any case, don't put words in my mouth; that's strawman logic. I frankly don't care about tips commensurate to looks. I just care that they get tipped.

@Yashendwirh Believe me, Hooter's servers aren't just pouring gruel into troughs. They're taking & placing orders. They're dealing with fussy diners. They're accommodating customers. They just happen to look good & wear tights, hot pants & tank tops while they're doing it. C'mon dude. Have you ever eaten at Hooter's? Those young women work their asses off just like any server at IHOP or Sardi's. So what if they have big titties, long legs & small waists.

@Yashendwirh Instead of picking at your gaffe I'll go BACK to my point. Pageants are a far cry from Playboy centerfolds or working at Hooters. My reasons for saying that have already been well established. I guess since you're some kind of freelance artist (that strange kind of artist who not only doesn't understand nuance but thinks critiques are more important than art collectors or the artists themselves), you're the sole expert on beauty, graphic intent AND hard work. LITERALLY smh.
1
@Yashendwirh But pageants main focus is to enumerate someone's looks. Yes, it's hard work to stay in shape, dress precisely, smile without showing lines, stand under bright lights & not break a sweat. I'll give you that. But at the end of the day, that's all pageant contestants do. But serving food is a completely different animal. And Playboy centerfolds are a completely different species. Please tell me you can at least understand that,

Why are congratulating her for having jobs when she was younger? I worked at Hardee's for pete's sake. Hooter's is a job just like any other. She wasn't a "Hooter's Girl". She was a server/hostess. That's a PROFESSION.

@Yashendwirh I'm not arguing semantics but I will say that your lack of understanding of general semantics (google Alfred Korzibsy if you're not familiar with that term) does give me some insight to why you don't get these nuances. Marketing aesthetics is only PART of what's done in Playboy. They have 30pages of nudes but what the hell do you think are in the other 100pgs? THINK ABOUT IT! Sure, Hooter's has lookers for servers but you're still going there to eat. THINK ABOUT IT!

@Yashendwirh A server in a restaurant is very different than a pageant contestant which is very different than a centerfold model in Playboy. How can you put them all in the same bucket? C'mon. For 1, a pageant is a contest to see who's the most attractive within a field of contestants. A centerfold is a woman who posed for some artistic pics in a gentlemen's magazine. A restaurant server brings food & drink to customers. You're avoiding the integrity if you avoid these glaring differences.

@Yas I've bussed, served & bartended in many settings. It's not splitting the atoms or breaking rocks in a quarry but it's hard work. That said, there's a broad difference between carrying hot plates to tables while juggling 6 tables full of finicky, (often drunk) diners and walking down a runway in high heels with hairspray on your butt while smiling with vaseline on your teeth. I agree that looks are elemental to all 3 setting But you're saying it's all the same BECAUSE of that element.
1
@Yashendwirh Then why'd you comment?
1
@Yashendwirh So it can't be erotic art? Why? Because you're a freelancer that says so? That's lousy reasoning. And believe me, Playboy isn't about exploiting women. For what it's worth, women don't even look like that. It's selling a fantasy of how women look. It's airbrushes, boomlights & greasy lenses. It's not about how good the woman looks. It's about how good the photographers can make her look & THAT'S on a limited basis in the magazine as it is.
1
@Yashendwirh If you've ever served food in ANY capacity, you know that they're working their pretty little asses off. They aren't just standing around saying, "pay me for my boobs." No. They're providing a valuable service. Playboy's centerfolds are less about the actual models & more about how the photographer presents them. Stop avoiding that nuance. If it were anything else, they would photoshop the pics. We'd see the women's chicken pox scars, pimples & cellulite dimples. But we don't.
1
@Yashendwirh And no 1 is calling fowl. I wouldn't need to call chickens. I think you meant say foUl. I digress. And I never said it was easy to look good & stay in shape. What I said is that Hooter's is a RESTAURANT. The staff's appearance is incidental to the nature of their work. Why don't you get that?
1
@Yashendwirh The context of Playboy is that of a gentleman's magazine. The context of Hooter's is that of a RESTAURANT for criminy's sake. Pageant context is that of people vying to be deemed most appealing. Those aren't subtle differences. Be honest, do you actually wank to Playboy when you can buy a Hustler instead? C'mon. And stop making that appeal-to-authority fallacy. I don't need some1 with a degree in lily pads painted by dead French guys to tell me if an artist is tryna create beauty.
1
@Yashendwirh Your opinion doesn't matter. Motive matters. Have you ever even looked at a Playboy magazine? If you did, you'd understand how your premise is wrong. You're equating porn to Playboy to beauty pageants.
1
@Yashendwirh It's absolutely a false equivalency. Whether or not you call it art doesn't matter because you don't get to make those qualitative judgments for anyone but yourself. At best you can talk about your own preferences when it comes to art. What counts is what the ARTIST is trying to do. If the artist says, "this is a set of tits & ass to give you a boner", that's 1 thing, But Playboy is a little more than that.
1
@Yashendwirh I'm not sure how Sandra Bullock movies got into this conversation but I find it ironic that you said that dumb shit immediately after saying my analysis was shallow. Therre are some really stupid people on youtube.
1
@Yashendwirh Back to the Playboy premise for a sec. If you think Playboy magazine is pornography; even jello-softcore porn, you're confused. It's a gentlemen's lifestyle magazine. In fact, the pics are incidental too. Have you ever actually READ a Playboy magazine? In 130pg issues there are probably 30pgs of nudes & we're not even talking full nudity or suggestive posing. Playboy's centerfolds are more about the photographer than the photographed. Be real.
1
@Yashendwirh I ALREADY SAID "EROTIC ART". Right now you're not even trying.
1
@Yashendwirh That's the exact opposite of what Ana is trying to say. Playboy is art; at least it's considered to be erotic art with the women as the medium. Hooter's is a job. Beauty pageants are not-so-abject exploitation. You can't make false equivalencies like that.
1
@Yashendwirh As for pageant contestants, you actually have a point. The judges often are gay & have no real erotic interest in the contestants. The judges actually do examine the presentation. But the theme is still about who's the prettiest. As an artist you're 1 with a discerning eye. Why does this escape you?
