@Nerdbil If my recollection of the etymology serves me, it was Nietzsche's concept of the Ubermensche that helped draft all these notions of "Aryan". Those notions are a pastiche of the caste systems in India & Iran. (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.) However, I understand your allusion to the "Aryan" concept as supremacists apply it to northwestern Europeans. The irony is that Hitler was closer to a real Aryan than Nietzsche's Nordic superman.

Nobody White is an Aryan. Aryans are from India & Iran.

Don't be over-sensitized, get yourself some context. That not only gives you a solid basis to frame your discussion, but it also provides insight as to why your own parents think that way. I'm far from religious but I think there's to something to be said for piety & submission to faith for the sake of virtue. We can defend against blanket statements without forgetting truth. Cant we? I hate it at times. But the truth is that the Mormon doctrine is racist therefore its followers are racist.
1
@potatochipsunsalted But do you understand the fact that racism is a large part of the Mormon doctrine? That's not being judgmental that's stating a fact. According to the Mormon ethos, Blackpeople are cursed simply for being born that way not for any cardinal sin. THAT is a racist principle. I can't speak for your friends but I can speak from an understanding of their sacred text.

@IFloridaMotocrossI I don't have any sympathy either. But I have to take an honest survey of what's being said. I also have to take everything with a mountain of salt. I don't think anyone in his right mind could accuse Beck of being informed. I think muribury was simply saying that Beck was crudely voicing a crude opinion. That's how it scanned for me. But I'm capable of error.

Beck is so uneducated that it's pathetic. Somehow, conservatives think it's acceptable to be obtuse because obtuseness is "down home"? Nimrods.

I'm a radical. It's not a bad word. But in that context, it's an attempt to demonize progressive thought. Don't worry. Like you said, those (Beck, Limbaugh, Weiner etc.) who'd vilify cats like me are an endangered species.
1
@IFloridaMotocrossI I'd never purposely steer you wrong. Muribury isn't a Becktard. Rather, it doesn't scan that way for me. 1 of my best friends is a Becktard so believe me, I can sense that nuance. You're wondering why I befriend Becktards. Right? I try not to predicate friendships on what people believe per se but by their actual quality (if that makes sense.). Neo-con or not, he's my friend I'm working to show him the light But friendship (how 1 feels for another) is always paramount.

I suppose you'd need to understand something about the Mormon Church in order to get his remark. 1) the Mormons believe that Blackpeople are intrinsically demons outright. "cursed by Ham" to be exact. 2) of the demons that were "redeemed", 15 have become actual ministers. That's 15 in a worship following of 13M people. Those 15 were canonized in YOUR lifetime. If you believe every word in the Book of Mormon (every Mormon reads it at least once), you're a racist. There's no arguing that.

@potatochipsunsalted Don't get me wrong, I've actually worked for Mormons. I lived on the UT/NV border for many years. As far as their behaviors go, it's a mixed bag. Some are warm & friendly; some are truly evil. But their underlying beliefs are always there. Am I being judgmental? Perhaps. But judging is my right. Handing down sentence isn't. Ultimately, I challenge you to read the Book of Mormon for some context. Ask your friends why Blacks weren't allowed into their ministry til '81.

@IFloridaMotocrossI What's most disturbing though is that Beck doesn't understand that structuralist feminism, neo-colonialism, etc ARE mainstream topics of late night discussions... for educated people. He doesn't get that Barack was his birth name, Barry is simply a derivative. And that when Barack began to identify as "Barack" is was for no other reason than to define & distinguish his residual self.

I don't think you need to vicariously protect your parents by pointing out a perceived logical fallacy in someone's youtube comment. That, to me, is a total waste. I'm simply saying that in order to fully understand the thinking that went into that person's comment, you should actually take a look at the Mormons for what they are. In that same way Elijah Muhammad was insane for calling White people "devils", Joe Smith was a nut for calling me "cursed" for my beautiful, caramel skin.

Flo, don't jump all over him like that. He doesn't look like a Beck-tard (at least not from this comment). We know that Beck is ignorant but that ignorance isn't what's guiding his comment this time. It's his racism & fear. In any case, muribry is simply examining it. He's not the culprit... THIS time.

Exactly!! That's what we did (except for bio majors like me. Our Friday's were mainly spent in the lab). But Beck, having never gone to college, doesn't know about that therefore it's offensive & elitist to him.

@IFloridaMotocrossI EXACTLY. But you talk about social planning (not social engineering) or neo-colonialism & those guys freak. It's because the words are big & scary. But ultimately, their just provincial people. They don't understand that you can't have things like information superhighways & still think like a small townie. Technological & social advancement are bedfellows therefore we have to take it ALL in.

@FatalAnimal Don't break out the critical thinking on YouSmell. His head'll explode. You don't want splattered brain tissue on your conscience.
