That's not the point. You work a job to pay rent to have a space of your own. It's called being a private citizen who has a right to privacy. You have the right to determine who comes into your home. You have a right to say, "I don't give a fuck if your motives are lawful, Mr. Policeman, you will not be allowed access into my space without a warrant signed by a democratically-elected official or an official appointed by a democratically-elected official". That's essential.

I agree. It's not an invasion of privacy. If someone set up a speed trap on your driveway, that'd be a privacy encroachment. But I must say that I agree but for a different premise: why aren't the cops doing their jobs & catching speeders the old-fashioned way?

Did you fight it?

The Autobahn still has limits. In fact, your car has to pass certain codes to even drive it on the Autobahn. In addition, there's a penalty for driving too slow. Most of all, if you're found negligible for an accident at a speed that was inappropriate for conditions, there's still prosecution. The fairy tales are 1 thing. The truth is altogether different.

The laws, with regards to being up to code to ride, are consistent. There still IS an advisory limit. The legal driving age is still 18 for all Germany's adjacent countries. Also you must consider the fact that the roads are maintained to top conditions. Germany is the size of NM. There are 53.6M cars in Germany. End to end, the Autobahn would stretch 7,500mi. There were STILL 18,829 collisions in '10. That means something.

They have to make money to pay for clerks, cops, janitors & property maintenance. The idea of a libertarian paradise where people have no basic laws sounds good but wait until you get into an car accident with someone who has no registration. What are the chances you'll be fucked by your own insurance company. "Case-by-case" sounds good but there have been enough cases that they've passed a law. Work to change the law or just obey it. It's not killing a person to not speed when driving.

There ARE stupid questions. Asking about a causal link between speeding & collisions is 1 of them. Generating revenue is generating revenue. If you can suggest a more efficient way to do that & keep jobs, I'm all ears. If oyu can't, you're just talking out of your ass. Like I said, I doubt you're tackling perceived global inequity if you can't address perceived local inequities. That's elementary. You try to cite outliers to prove your objection. That's typical because you've lost traction.

So since avoiding high-fat foods & not smoking aren't the end-all to be-all when it comes to prevention of heart disease, we shouldn't avoid smoking & McDonald's?
1
Yep. BUT, on some occasions, those cars are set up before a challenging bend in the road.

You're still joking. Again, I appreciate absurd humor. It's funny when done properly. But you must admit that even the dumbest of NRA members wouldn't frame that argument. Nobody's that stupid... I HOPE nobody's that stupid.
1
That's hardly the case.
1
If you're talking about the Autobahn, consider the fact that only certain vehicles are even allowed on the Autobahn & having access to those vehicles presupposes that their owners are responsible with good driving records. Also consider the fact that in Germany, they take drivers education for 2yrs. Also, the legal driving age in Germany was 18 until '09. Also, the driver's MUST carry full coverage. And there IS an advisory speed limit of 81mph if you go slower, you'll get a ticket.

Anarchy 101.

The right to bear arms isn't the right to commit crimes of property damage. The right to bear arms isn't to unlawfully use a firearm either. I know you're being absurd & all but c'mon. I don't even think a gun nut would make that argument.
1
I know it's property damage. I know the cities, towns, counties & states desperately need money. But we also need the police to do their jobs. Do the cameras promote public safety while freeing up cops to fight crime? I don't think so. If anything they just generate revenue while police deal with bullshit, law enforcement issues that shouldn't even be criminal violations in the 1st place.
1
Speeding camera;s give out tickets. Yes, people slow down when they recognize them. You haven't looked at any research.
1
Define "help" in terms of "grand scheme" thinking. The auto-tickets "help" generate revenue. I don't like that cops aren't doing their jobs but let's face it: part of a cops job is to write tickets. Some (many) tickets are petty & don't actually promote public safety. BUT, let's make no bones about that objective. So what "grand-scheme help" are you referring to?
1
I think the fact that speeding is causally linked to collisions is already documented. Don't get me wrong, the violation has no consequences if he gets home safely. I'd even be okay if they made proper adjustments of laws for certain conditions (ie, speeding down an unoccupied street). But blame a slippery slope fallacy then scream "statism". Just obey the law or work to change it. When you get stopped by bureacracy mess, bear in mind that the state still has to make money. It's not a conspiracy
1
A false ticket? Getting caught by the radar gun ain't false.
1
How is not speeding not killing anyone? Don't ask stupid questions. And like I said, they have to generate revenue. Instead of complaining about inequity or claiming some conspiracy, work to have the laws change. Otherwise, you're literally spinning your wheels. I doubt you're working with a group for global equality if you're not up to the task of tackling local laws. In any case, it's not going to kill you to drive the speed limit. In fact, it might save a life or 2.
1
Okay, you did the right thing. I can get with that. And don't get me wrong, I understand that they're to make money. I just don't think there;s anything intrinsically wrong with that.
