@Bm0h It's not as good as the people who enforce it. At best, this is a reactionary move. Simply saying "every adult must report" is essentially requiring people to perform a task for which they will (usually) have no training. If I think my sister smacks her kid too hard, I'll talk to my sister; not call the cops. As a health care professional, I was workshopped on the subject. But that's because I was in public health. What about Susan, the bartender? What about Rick, the backhoe operator?

It's not fuzzy ground at all. A person may be morally obligated but the notion being legally obligated is bullshit. Even witnessing a rape (as horrible as this may sound) & not reporting it doesn't make you implicit in the rape. This law is not only going to target little guys, it also takes the prosecutorial focus away from where it needs to be. Furthermore, it makes the water nice & muddy for defense attorneys to exploit the situation. Being forced to report makes you a "hostile" witness.

I'm not sure it's intuitive to report suspects. That's a bad look. Convicted offender, yes. But being arrested on suspicion, no.

@sefrzan No they don't. Their licenses are protected & they are legally protected against certain lawsuits for malpractice in 1st situations. But there's very little, legal mandate that holds up a physician's license & forces him to treat someone in a 1st aid situation.

@baalisgod666 But is a silly argument that would cost a person 3yrs of his life worth the lousy karma in your own life? C'mon. Let bygones be stupid if they wanna be stupid. Stay above that nonsense. I'll say the same thing I said to him: if you're gonna troll, take it to 4chan. Otherwise, we can have a mature discussion... I think.

In healthcare, you have specific training to identify abuse. Legally mandating every person >18 simply because they're >18 is bullshit. And yes, the possibility of a witch hunt is an extremely valid argument. Why? You work in health care. Right? Your employer looked into your background. If you'd've been arrested & charged (not even convicted) for ANY kind of sexual misbehavior, you could kiss that career goodbye. People in certain positions must report but not ALL adults.

@Sahluful There's an ocean of difference between calling someone stupid & calling someone a child molester. Don't do that dumb shit. I know it's the internet but that's no excuse to do that. If you think it's acceptable, why not just go to 4chan & ask who's mad?

@baalisgod666 Chill out. There's no need for all that. Everyone reading the thread can see that it was a foolish accusation because he was losing traction. All that "I'll kill you. Give me your address" stuff is frail. Don't do that. Get him on substance & reason instead.
1
@Sahluful So because you can't get him on a substantive argument, you'll try to accuse him of being a molester? That's why suggesting legislation like this 1 is dumb.
