@PiratedComedy There are many human characters on the show. You can't just say that argument doesn't work unless you're using all the characters. I suspect that person was referring to the Muppets. Just my $0.02.

@PiratedComedy I think you may have misunderstood myt premise. I never said Sesame Street was elementary. In fact, the Sesame Street I remember from the '70s & '80s (I'm dating myself) dealt with a broad range of complex ideas. They dealt with the basic, as you suggested, but they also dealt with religion, race, love, disabilities, drug abuse & urban life. On an even deeper level, they dealt with philosophical abstractions like "what is happiness" vs. "minimalism" (See "Alligator King").

@stumpdonut23 Yep. "7" is considered our mnemonic limit on some things. But as for the abstractions I mentioned, you can see what I meant about minimalism, frugality & childhood earnest.

(cont'd) So in a sense, I agree with you that they're trying to present a "wholesome" show that never really existed. BUT, I also think that trying to attach a concept like sexuality to Bert & Ernie is a little immature. Two men can be friends/roommates without being homosexual. And like the other fellow suggested, if you really want to talk about homosexuality, why not start with a clean slate & have "out" characters instead of forcing B&E out of a closet they never occupied?

@Vrishchii Best idea to date. It's not that I'm afraid they'll mar my notions of Bert & Ernie as gay. In fact, I thought they were just best friends; brothers even. They have their differences but they kick it. Bert's the straight man. Ernie is the prankster. Bromance isn't homosexuality. That said, if they want the show's arc to reflect the realities of gay marriage & gay parenting, it'd probably be best to introduce & establish anew.

Check it out again. It's actually quite deep. Imagine all the kids trying to impress a rich parent in order to get the best inheritance. What they didn't understand was that the king had gotten by on frugality (his crown was 7ยข). The rings only tripped him up when he walked. The oysters only messed up his hands. The cheap perfume only made him sick. The rubies were mistaken for candy & fucked up his teeth. The only 1 that had any sense was the child who hadn't been corrupted yet.
