  1. Oh yeah. No doubt it's staged. The minute a Lakers cheerleader became a pop star, it was over. Interestingly enough, she found herself judging a karaoke show. Check that. It happened with Milli Vanilli. I completely agree that most of what we see now is people who haven't paid dues & are over-produced, over-edited, over-mastered & over-exposed. The days of guitar heroes like Jeff Beck have given way to the days when Guitar Hero is a video game; literally.

  2. I remember when there a hubbub made about Whitney Houston lip syncing the anthem at the Superbowl. They said it was done that way because there was a concern about the jets that flew overhead. It's common practice to have prerecorded songs at big events. Sometimes they want it to go off without a hitch. Sometimes the performers aren't physically up to it (the human body can be tricky even if you're a pro). Sometimes the more vocally challenging songs can't go with a performance. This isn't news.

  3. I hate to keep bugging you but it's pertinent. I'm actually watching the R&R HoF ceremony as I'm typing this. They're inducting Laura Nyro, a damned solid vocalist in her own right. They used Sarah Barelleis to cover 1 of her songs. I guess they're both in the same register & Sara can copy the diction well. I might say that "the heroes" doesn't mean anything to me. But I won't. I'll ask you to define "heroes". Cheers!

  4. Y'know, I've heard that her pitch was off at times. Smoking'll do that. I don't know, however, if she relied on the knobs & tracks for everything. I wouldn't say she was a lousy singer. I'd say she didn't take good care of her instrument. As for all the heroes being frauds, I tend to disagree but since I'm not sound engineer or editor, I must take you at your word & understand what might inform your opinion. But I gotta ask: are you sure you aren't a little jaded from working with hacks?
