  1. On the northern banks of the Rhine river were wetlands. The Frisians thrived there and the Romans daren’t go in. The Frisians used small rafts, poles and even pigs to find their way in an ever changing landscape. Obviously one and another involved over time however small canals were not seen as hinderances, not then and not now!
