  4. Not really. Chinese used to pull rickshaws barefoot in the snow with nothing more than straws as coats for insulations decades ago.

  5. There is no such thing as mandate of heaven. You just have immoral people running the country. It's always been part of their culture. "Mandate of Heaven" was an attempt to keep emperors in check because they essentially answered to nobody.
