Being college educated is not the problem here. The Chinese aren't taught basic manners and etiquette. And their society never prioritized it. When they are told, they have such a bad attitude about it. They have ALWAYS been like this. Even in prior governments to the CCP. Everyone who practiced these so called "divine rights" and "etiquette" were of the upper classes and monks. "They have steadfastly resisted the introduction of other standards developed elsewhere and which, though far from ideal in practice, are of proven superiority to their own in enabling the average of mankind to derive the most from his environment in competition with his fellows." - "Ways that are dark: The Truth About China" by Ralph Townsend (Former US Consul who lived in 1930s China)

@poledancemay Taiwan is just China if they became democratic and were introduced to more progressive values. But when I went to Taiwan, I also saw uncivilized behavior. For example, when I was in the train station, random people were sprawled out on the floor waiting for the train to come. At some point you just have to accept that this "Chinese behavior" is innate in them no matter where they come from.

@ChickensAndGardening Read "Ways that are dark: The Truth about China" by Ralph Townsend. What you are saying is not true.

@ChickensAndGardening Taiwan is the way it is because of Japanese influence. And they evolved "away" from their authoritarian ways which they have always been since they had emperors. Like I said earlier, China never changed. If you take a look at their tumultous history this will be laid bare. Lying and deception have always been paramount values they espoused along with control and authoritarianism. In fact it was not unusual for China to have tyrannicsl emperors in the past. Suffering has and will always be something they will always deal with. It's all about what the egotistical dimwit on top wants over agreed upon universal values - Chinese never had this and they never fought for this unlike the Europeans did. That's why they will always be a mess.

@kentathvaprdsk everyone keeps blaming the CCP when they have always been the same. If there is one thing that has remained unchanged with the Chinese it's that they refuse to change. Too stubborn, too pig headed and will continue to fight for what's "wrong" because it falls under the banner of being "Chinese".

@Xi_Pooh_Shill You can be educated in etiquette because etiquette is learned. It's just not prioritized in Chinese culture. And it's always been this way. Under the KMT was no different.

@Xi_Pooh_Shill Read my comment again. I just said etiquette is learned so therefore, you can be educated in etiquette.
