@inge-9280 That's a mistake. Turkey has a large army and a large population and it's in an important position. Erdogan is not Turkey - even with all his evil tricks he couldn't stop nearly 50% of people voting against him in the last election.

@TimeFadesMemoryLasts Well, you have licenses for driving and for storing explosives and plenty of other restrictions on your freedom which you accept. Many of us get on quite well with restrictions on guns as well and all of your gun-freedom didn't stop you almost getting a dictator recently.

@TimeFadesMemoryLasts I've lived in a tyranny unlike you perhaps and I cannot help it if you are so simplistic as to imagine that guns are of the slightest use in such a situation.

@TimeFadesMemoryLasts You cannot tell the military to ***k off because tyrannies always engage some of the population so you're always going to be a minority and the military can squash you easily. If all of public opinion is against the tyranny then it will fall over without any need for weapons. In the meantime all those weapons that people in the US buy end up killing people which is not freedom from fear.

There are good people there but they don't have the microphone. We should always remember that we need Russia to become better or even "good" to have a peaceful future so we should be trying to help those who are decent. We could start by not accepting the money of rich Russian criminals in our own countries. We have accepted a lot of dirty money which shows our own evil is not defeated.

@yvonnetomenga5726 Turkish doesn't have words for "she" and "he" - but it does have words for "mother's sister" and "father's sister". People don't consider things of similar importance in different cultures. I don';t know the answer about "mines" in Ukranian but I'm not surprised if there is only one word.

They live in an alternate reality - many like it and those that don't are very frightened. There are people like that in every country but perhaps just not so many.

@herrbonk3635 if you're pro Sweden you will want to not be in Ukraine's position ever and as for provoking Russia......what does provocation or lack of it mean to them? There is only desire and opportunity and complaints about provocation are just the current public excuse for doing what they want. They know how little our people want any kind of fighting very well because they take advantage of it.

He might fear being invaded by Russia - that would not be a good outcome for this whole situation at all for the West or for Ukraine. So there's something to be said for eager and ineffectual co-operation on his part - lots of noise and nothing too useful.

People above a certain age won't change their minds and probably some below a certain age won't either. The reason for all this crap is a cultural attitude and I despair of that changing much in the short term. You can see even in the US and other western countries that it's a daily battle to keep such cultural attitudes from turning those places into dictatorships.
