  3.  @VictorBonello  That's because people of the world know the US will pay. They don't lend that kind of money to other countries because they don't believe in them. How much debt you can take on is just the measure of how successful the world thinks you are.

  4.  @akkudakkupl  first the target must be detected - this can be done by another radar. Then the missile can be fired in the correct direction and can be corrected until it's close enough for its infra red to not be "fooled" by flares etc.

  5.  @akkudakkupl  they have lock on after launch and a datalink so they can be guided before their own sensors lock. It's possible that this might help them overcome countermeasures but I don't know for sure.

  6. How about training that number of pilots? I think that's the reason why it would end up being better spent on drones.

  7.  @mytech6779  America is very important but it isn't NATO and it's not the only owner of electronic reconnaisance aircraft and satellites of good capability and indeed of the skills to entirely look after them or even create them from the ground up if that were needed.
