That is all about face saving. I think it's completely obvious that they consider themselves superior to the Ukranians and that the whole issue is about feeling superior. The only ego-saving way to explain their lack of success is to suggest that they're fighting NATO.

@3drs0s Afghanistan, The Cold War itself. Russo Japanese war.

There are a few elements of truth IMO. Management, for example, is a very important thing to be good at as it affects everything else. There are brilliant people all over the world who can only "shine" when they go somewhere that's managed properly. Also there is a shallowness to friendly social interactions with strangers in America but what does that matter when compared to the obvious disinterest, outright hostility, rudeness or contempt that you might get in other places? On the other hand I think Russian Oligarchs certainly care about money.....
12
@marchvertochko0056 It's pretty glaringly simple - get out of the other people's country.

I don't like to overly encourage the Americans but....jazz....? An entire musical genre - did Russia ever do that? As for architecture........they invented a lot of the modern forms such as sky scrapers which are "so awful" that everyone is copying them. And how can "history" be superior?
8
@marchvertochko0056 in the EU we've shot all the troublesome bears and the rest are in the zoo.
5
@marchvertochko0056 a trillion is a thousand million just to clarify. The thing about NATO is that it COULD offer trillions because it has a huge population compared to Russia. But it hasn't. Britain is spending more on its high speed rail link than it ever spent on Ukraine for example.

A lot of people in the West want to blame foreigners for their misfortunes too. Don't feel superior - if you look at home you will see the same shit happening. Perhaps only the scale is different but we too could end up with people like Putin if we try to evade responsibility.

Aren't the Google founders 2nd generation Americans with Russian origins? I do at least know that a large number of the worlds websites run on the nginx web server which is Russian. America's big success is being a place where talented people want to go because it has a huge market and enough law to provide opportunities.
2
@GB-mu9ue I haven't found that at all. I find that nobody cares about you anywhere in the world and some are just honest about it.
1
@johnalden5821 I was trying tone down the criticism. All over the world there are some people who actually will care about you and they signal that by being "nice". So being "nice" without caring is fake and misleading.
1
@alexanderwolf8766 it would be nicer to think that Russians on average were more intelligent than this video suggests.
1
It seems the main chance is with the youth but even then....
1
@fdllicks They might not say it but quite a lot of people in the US clearly want it.
1
@fdllicks you came within inches of finding out and you're not out o danger.
1
@fdllicks I'm British and have a Ukrainian flag on my jacket right now. Slava Ukraini! I was only trying to point out a warning to people in the US that they are in danger of making exactly the same kind of mistake that the Russians made by allowing a very dangerous man and his political party to have power. He has already nearly succeeded in a coup d'etat. Don't think you're so superior that you don't have to watch out.
1
It took economic disaster to break the USSR, what less than that will break Putin? The really real problem is that too many Russians don't agree with this chap at the moment. For as long as they're ok personally, it doesn't matter what crimes Putin does and a bit of nationalism is enjoyable. The Russian economy will have to start falling apart and although lots is going wrong, the disaster now isn't enough. Waiting for disasters is just a terrible way to change governments.

All over the world older people cling to the way the world was when they were younger - when they imagined they were safe and happy. I don' think there's anything specifically Russian about that. If you put them through a period of stress and uncertainty they'll start dreaming of the old days.
1
@dancroitoru364 Dealing with climate will require a change in attitude and behavior which is what older people resist. So it's more comfortable to pretend the problem doesn't exist. Some people are just playing stupid - they think the problem won't affect them in their lifetime and resent anyone younger ... so "screw it." Those of us who care more than 1/2 a shit about our children have no excuses.
1
@dancroitoru364 Not quite sure what you're talking about but I have a kid and I don't see why some bunch of old bastards need to be coddled along and allowed to prevent us from fixing the problem that will affect her.
1
@dancroitoru364 The people who created the problem can help pay for it to be fixed.
1
Reminds me of Zimbabwe: although there are sensible people the lying has been so bad and so persistent that those sensible people are overbalanced by huge numbers of confused people. Leaving is a good option.
1
I think some of this is "bravado" from the older people.
1
That old man should go - he hasn't got a long time left and some young person should be sent back - someone who has more life left to live.
1
@Iv4Bez I think the west sees a huge country with a tiny economy. The population doesn't change its government which is a sign that it is a very corrupt place - like so many countries in Africa. All it has is oil and gas and with climate change policies that will be less and less important. Nuclear weapons will stop working without money.
1
@marchvertochko0056 who's stagnant in Ukraine? NATO countries are ensuring the damage to their own economies and their own citizens is limited while Russia opens its belly on a Ukrainian knife. Russians have no choice but to suffer as much as Putin demands because they're not able to remove him.
1
@MrNikoback I was trying to leave out the less admirable things :-D
1
@MrNikoback also you're wrong about Russian music. Tchaikovsky for example (LGBT btw). İf you haven't heard of him, for example then it can only be lack of education. This is why I said I don't want to encourage Americans because you guys already have big heads.
1
@ussocom3644 They are extremely well educated and probably don't get caught up in "conspiracy bullshit" so easily and don't tolerate stupid news.
1
@ussocom3644 I've been to both Finland and the US. Tertiary education at a higher rate doesn't mean a better educated population at all - quite a sneaky statistic realty :)
1
@ussocom3644 come on...you cannot really expect to fool people by quoting the wrong set of statistics can you?
1
So in other words it's hard to be objective in Russia because a fair number of people want to believe in the crap they're being fed. Every country has people with views like this but just perhaps a lower percentage. You can also see the one who lived through the soviet era haven't forgotten their programming.
1
Of course there are good people and of course you have to be stupid to generalise. Russia probably just doesn't have a big enough middle class - the people who want stability and comfort and have the political power to get it. To put it another way, I think all countries have arseholes in them but they are not empowered to the same degree.
1
@sage0001 They lost millions of people because they had incompetent leadership who were initially trying to make friends with the Nazis. How you can turn that into "winning the war" is a wonderful bit of propaganda...
