Someone did point out to me that when you're designing a family of cars you're doing a packaging problem on many models at the same time. You want to reuse all the same elements and you want to put everything together in almost the same way to keep costs down. That is going to result in empty spots in some models just because the overall system is engineered to allow e.g. a HUD or a heat pump at that point even if that model will never have it.

@mcspikesky laziness is a silly thing to accuse car companies of, especially successful ones. Cheapness , on the other hand, exactly what we want.

Yasa is the company in the UK which is known for championing axial motors. It seems strange that McLaren wouldn't have got it from them even though Mercedes bought them.

It would be worth knowing what software version you had as the big update (2.1) that's bringing OTA updates is supposed to be coming out this month. The prior build was 0783 and the OTA one is apparently 0792. People are getting it as we speak - mostly ID.3 owners in Europe. I think it's likely in NA that you will have it from the start except on these kind of test drive cars that have been imported early.

Well, you can read the forums to hear about the software updates people are getting on their VW ID.3s so that's just not true. The 2.1 release with OTA update ability is set for release this month.

I think one just needs a timer in the wall that will charge at a particular time in the night - then your battery will have a chance to cool down before charging starts and you can catch the cheaper electricity too.

How many people relate to horses anymore? As he said, once you know the energy usage of one car that you have driven, you'll just be able to relate every car to that.

Unfortunately "Falsehood flies and the truth comes limping behind it." But at least it does come :-) thanks!

@Gibson99 OK I Think I'm going to say Teeeeeeslah and see how many complaints I get on that.

IMO it would be more desirable to package the car so that space was inside - then I'm definitely enjoying it all the time.

Never heard of the CPU's TDP? That's about how much heat it puts out and obviously the hotter it is the more cooling you need to provide. 150W TDP, for example, is a hot CPU whereas 65W is usually slower and cheaper but easier to deal with too.
