  1. The U.S. is only one of a handful of countries around the world that find it customary to tip. When in fact tipping for food service can be deemed as an insult. Why? Because the history of tipping stems back to a time when wealthy "white" socialites traveled by train and would tip the " black" porters on Pullman cars for their expedited services. The better the black porter would serve (meals drinks, sleeping accessories) the white passenger, the more they received in tips. I, as a rule, primarily for this reason, generally don't tip. The other reasons being that wages should come from the employer, not the customer who is already paying for their meal, and the fact that there are many of us who provide services on a daily basis who don't receive tips.
