Yeah, that’s not going to happen. 💙🌊🇺🇸

Surreal, to say the least.

Palm and palmetto trees are quite resilient to wind and wind gusts. Pine trees on the other hand, because of their canopy and shallow root systems, aren’t.

Having lived through three hurricanes as a child, and having studied them, and going by the information from the various news media networks, my best estimate is that Milton will make landfall just north of Sarasota as a category 4 hurricane with sustained wind speeds between 130 - 156 mph. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Milton made landfall as a cat 5 hurricane. Though, a great factor of Milton’s intensity depends on the temperature of the gulf waters as it approaches the central west coast of Florida. One way to judge the intensity of a “low pressure” storm is by what the millibar (mbar) reading is. The lower the mbar reading - the stronger the storm. For instance in 2005 Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Louisiana coast just east of New Orleans as a category 3 hurricane with wind speeds in excess of 129 mph with a mbar reading of 902. Milton has already reached cat 5 with wind speeds in excess of 175 mph and a mbar reading of 893. I hope this helps answer your question and provides some meteorological insight into the dynamics of hurricanes. Be safe. Be strong. Be well.
