Yes, I agree. Logically, one would just go around the buoys. However, it is not a matter of dislike or hatred toward foreigners from south of the border. Many people fail to see the systemic problems that an influx of migrants bring. Especially, migrants who knowingly try to "illegally" enter the U.S. while pregnant, so that their child can be declared a national born citizen, who's rights would be protected under the Constitution's Bill of Rights.
The U.S. has enough problems with it's citizens (homelessness, drug addiction, mental illness, crime, lack of social services funding, etc.), let alone supporting hundreds of thousand illegal immigrants. We, as a nation, DON'T have the resources to support them.
I totally understand the migrants plight. However, if things aren't right in their country, they need to fix it, and not be so disrespectful as to place burden on the U.S. by simply assuming the U.S. is a safe haven to escape to.
As a registered California Democrat (Centrist Democrat), I mostly don't agree with anything Texas Governor Greg Abbot says, but in this instance with the buoys, I have to side with him on protecting his state.
If it were up to me, I would make the entire U.S./Mexico border a demilitarized zone, complete with concertina wire, armed guards and sniper towers. I believe the buoys are a little more humane approach.
