  3. The highest elevation in Florida is around 600'; I would think most all of Florida is in a flood zone.

  6. The problem with Florida home construction and is that their building codes and moratoriums aren't up to par to withstand hurricanes. The species and grade of lumber, along with the construction braces used aren't adequate enough to withstand hurricane force winds. Furthermore, they allow residential construction in known flood prone areas. These homes should be built out of cinder blocks and bricks, or at least not out of pine. Also, homes need to be elevated at least eight to 10 feet above ground to prevent flood damage.

  8.  @SlowCarsFastSFV  Then it's the insurance companies fault for not adequately adjusting insurance premiums for those residents who reside in homes in areas prone to hurricanes, floods, and tornados.
