Having lived through three hurricanes, and having accurately predicted the paths of many hurricanes over the past 20 years, I can tell you with certainty that the European hurricane model is the most accurate. In fact, I believe that due to the warmer gulf water off the coast of Tallahassee (89°), as opposed to the cooler gulf water off Tampa Bay (87°), that Idalia will make an even more westerly landfall than the European model predicts. Idalia will make landfall as a Category 4, within one degree east of Tallahassee. She will then track in a slight curve to the northeast as she tries to find the path of least resistance over land until she can find the warm water of the Atlantic ocean just off the southeast coast of South Carolina. Up until that time, Idalia will travel northeast toward Sylvester, Georgia. From there she will make a more noticeable curve toward Columbus, South Carolina as she makes her way to the Atlantic. Once she hits open ocean water she will stay just off shore hugging the coastline, weakening along the way, until she reaches Cape Hatteras. From there she will weaken into a tropical storm and will venture out into the deeper and cooler waters of the mid-North Atlantic Ocean.
