  14. This is not news but it is an oversimplifiication and terribly misleading. The government does NOT set foreign exchange rates by fiat. No government can dictate the price of pumpkins to another sovereign nation. Flooding the exchanges with excess dollars reduces the dollar's value relative to other currencies. That's one reason the fed borrows by issuing debts. It also can create inflation domestically. That does not mean that increasing the money supply is always bad, but that it matters how those additional dollars are used. Also notice the government absolutely can default on debts payable in other currencies. Finally, if a government continues to finance trade by continually devaluing their currency, other nations will no longer trade with that nation.

And yes hyperinflation in countries has caused foreign trade to grind to a halt. Thinking of Brazil around the late seventies but there have been others. The point is there are real world consequences.

  16.  @Krill_all_health_insuranceCEOs  don't strawman me. I said that increasing the money supply CAN cause inflation. If you double the money supply, ceteris paribus, everything doubles in price. Money is just a representation of value everyone agreed to use as a way to keep track of shit. I personally think the military budget (which doesn't even include the VA or nuclear weapons programs) should be 1/10th what it is. Don't get me started on local police budgets or the alphabet agencies. We could thereby end homelessness and fund tuition-free education and ubi in perpetuity. I agree with most of your positions and even worked on a committee for campaign reform in NYC. I just think the video was misleading and that's what I said. It doesn't help the cause when we make arguments that don't hold up.
