  2.  @orifox1629  As far as I know, there is ONE station in the system that can be bypassed: National Airport has 3 through tracks. That is probably a remnant from the early proposals which had the Blue Line branching to two different termini in Virginia and the Yellow Line terminus was to be much farther south on US-1. Adding bypass tracks or offline platforms to most of the stations would, today, be prohibitively expensive. They should do so with future infill stations, but they probably won't.

  3.  @ryanlargent9320  The reason trains can arrive on either platform (usually during maintenance or construction on one of the directional tracks) is that there are crossovers between most of the stations. That feature absolutely does NOT make express trains possible.
