The main reason the American right/Republicans reject the facts about carbon emissions so vehemently is not merely "because greed" but also because the left/Democrats handled this issue so very poorly while they held power. They conflated science-based issues with social issues and squandered their political capital on creating poorly thought out healthcare reform that denuded more forests than any lumber company, transgender/transtrender bathroom "rights," and legislation via judicial fiat. Starting with Gore's badly presented carbon tax ideas at a time when more Americans, regardless of political ideologies, were becoming very open to the science behind climate change, the Dems did FAR more harm to this important issue than the Reps EVER could. Their blatant power-grabbing pushed many moderates toward the right. Their frequent exaggeration and feelings-based entreaties, instead of winning converts to the cause, sowed the seeds of suspicion and cast doubt on legitimate science. When the whole thing falls down around our ears, remember that BOTH teams did their part to make it happen.
