@CBlargh Legitimate answer: Things can explode underwater. Gunpowder creates its own oxygen therefore guns can be fired underwater (not the best idea but it's possible) and in vacuum. Oil is flammable and can be ignited by welding torches. There were pockets within the Arizona and other damaged ships where flammable gases accumulated. Spark=BOOM.

@CBlargh Long after the attack, the US Navy debated cutting her open to pump out the oil but her frame and hull were so badly compromised that there were legitimate fears of causing an explosion. She had been entered by divers who searched for survivors in the days following the attack. They had no visibility and had to feel their way through the ship in extremely dangerous conditions. The salvage divers and crews did an incredible, history-making job. Even before the smoke cleared, ammunition, equipment, and guns were being removed from many of the disabled vessels for use elsewhere in the fleet. Of all the ships sunk or heavily damaged at Pearl, only the Utah (a noncombatant battleship used for training and target practice), the Arizona, and the Oklahoma were unable to be salvaged and returned to combat duty. The Utah and Arizona remain where they sank. The Oklahoma sank while being towed to the west coast for scrapping. The remaining warships got their chance to shoot back at Japanese forces before the Pacific war ended.

@CBlargh She leaks about 9 quarts (about 2 gallons) of oil per day into the Pacific Ocean, which contains 187 QUINTILLION gallons of water. Do the math and you'll probably realize that recreational watercraft leak a far higher percentage of petroleum into your city's drinking water supply. Don't blame me for the gross-out factor. You brought it up.
