  1. Tim, most modern sitcoms don't use a laugh track. They film with a live audience and use their reactions to tweak the script. They will often edit the audience track to synch it with a different take as the laughter sounds somewhat forced after 6 or 7 takes, but the "laugh track" of the 50s and 60s is generally used only for the initial episodes of a new show.

  2. The first few seasons (1970s) were funny. The halls of my high school echoed with impromptu skit reenactments every Monday.
